Modena vs Gen4.

I recently bought a Gen IV and also was considering the Modena. One thing I will say is that while the pricing is similar on the two (Viper slightly less), the cost of ownership is not comparable.

With my vehicles, I like to know that if something breaks, I can buy the part online and fix it myself. A mere fender bender in the Ferrari will cost an arm and a leg, much less drivetrain issues.

I agree ZZ SRT - like you, I love all the beautiful girls! American, Canadian, Italian, whatever...!

But, some girls are higher maintenance than others. You divorced guys know exactly what the f*ck I'm talking about. Anyway, I bought a Gen 4 Viper and have had a grand total of 0 service visits in 3+ years. 6,000+ miles (including lots of track day outings), and not a single problem. Not what I anticipate with the older Italian girls I covet...!

I wound up dropping by the local C&C yesterday kind of spur of the moment in my DD and there was a huge turnout. I watched and LISTENED to a few of these 360's come and go including a Challenge Stradale. I have always wanted a mid-engine v8 or v12 car and these seem to be attainable now at reasonable prices. I mean look at what it costs to get into an FGT and here you can find nice 360 examples in the $70-$80k range What else is out there in that range for a Mid engine car that compares I plan to keep my GTS and and add another car this year or early next and the 360 is on my list now but I must say that it's good news bad news with so many nice choices available and becoming available. Talk me down off the ledge here

I was very tempted to get a 360 myself. I think what really scared me off the ledge was the fact that the sellers usually listed their maintenance receipts on the ad showing the $7k service for this and $4k service for that to show how well they maintained their car! I decided to get a Lotus Exige instead, a Mid-engined 2000 pound car with a bullet proof Toyota 220 HP motor.

My friends Ferrari Italia just went in for a fluid flush after a whopping 1k miles, somewhere around 2500-5000 hmmm pass. Would love to own one but a 1-2k oil change isn't for me

For the OP like JJS555 said if you consider a Ferrari save $$$ for the F430 wich is a better car than the 360 and ''cheaper'' to maintain ( if I can say cheap regarding Ferrari's maintenance....). For instance they replace belts by chains and no need to replace them as soon as on the 360 (15-20k $). I loved the sound of my V10 but the sound of a F430 when the valve open at 3500 rpm
The Viper on the other end generates more thumbs up and less jealousy than its italian cousin.....so maybe your a little bit less nervous when you have to let her alone in the parking lot when your having lunch.....

The 360's and 430's always seemed a bit bland to look at for me but hearing a half dozen F cars exit the C&C the other day got me motivated to check the market and do a little research. Cars are becoming like electronics now, in that as soon as you buy something a better cheaper model seems to become available. I'm sure I'll be even more confused after the auto show next week in a good sorta way

With what I want in a gen5 being a ways out, I started researching to see if now was a good time to pick up a F/L car for a year or so while I wait for what I want long term. So many of the F/L's don't have the power I'm spoiled with having, it's a tough call. With over 1200 hp between my two current play cars, going with a 300-400 hp option with tq to match, if not less, regardless of the looks & sound, would get tired for me in a short time. The Gallardo could be an option, but at the cost, which I could swing, but frankly it doesn't excite me enough to go for. There are two within 5 mis of my house, which makes them more common than my gen4, lol. I just gave up on the idea of a swap & will hang onto the gen4 til the next 'must have' is born, which for me is a gen5 vert, ACR, or TA. Of course, that creates a bit of a wait for me, but nothing I "want" is out now, thinking of switching to a C7 for a daily driver, I love the redesign and with the targa carbon top it seems like a perfect daily for me .. if I can bump power 10-15% on it, it'll be ideal. Poor me, in wait mode on everything. ;-)

Technically your Viper is a mid engined car, more so than the 360. Weight distribution on the 96-02 GTS is 46/54, for the 360 it's 42/58, and the Ferrari's engine falls squarely into the last 1/3 of the car, while the Viper's is seemingly pushed in well beyond the first 1/3.

That being said, there's no comparison between the car **** shamelessly exposed under the Ferrari's transparent "hood" and the Viper's conservative clamshell. The Corvette ZR1's attempt to mimick the Italian exoticas' engine exposure is considered by most to be pathetic.

Ha! I totally hear you, one of my cars is a 400 hp mr2 with all sound deadening removed, so the feeling is somewhat familiar

I was thinking more about handling. I'm sure the Gen IV will be a much more neutral car than the 360, given it's almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution, but since I've never driven a 360 I'll abstain from any further opinions.

Modena's are nice but SLOW! 430 is nicer and faster. It gives me great satisfaction when i piss on either of them in a gen 2

I have owned so many cars over the last 5 years, many of them Vipers (Gen 2 FE, Gen 4 FE and Gen 4 Convertible), FGT, Corvettes, GT500KR, 997.2 Porsche 911 Turbo S...I recently sold everything and ordered a new Ferrari 458 which will land here in the next 4-6 weeks. I loved my Vipers, but I wanted to experience the Italian cars. I almost bought a Lamborghini Gallardo, but opted to go with the Ferrari. I wanted something different. I love the sound of a high revving Ferrari's. Also, mid-engine cars are a totally different animal than front engine cars. Apples to oranges comparing the two handling-wise. I much prefer the feel of a mid-engine car these days for handling.
I think that you will not be happy with a 360 because it will feel slow to you. The 430 will be more in the ballpark, but probably still feel slow if you are coming from a Gen4 Viper. How about a later model Lamborghini? They tend to be pretty bulletproof and pretty fast and you can find some deals out there.
All in all, it is pretty tough to beat the performance of a Viper for the same money without landing into the performance Corvette range, which most of us don't want to do Step up the money and you will get more car...step it up a lot and you will get a lot more car. Dollar for dollar, you can't beat a Viper.

I haven't owned a 360, but my father recently picked up a 458 Spider and it is an unbelieveable car! I love my GenIV Viper, but the 458 is a space ship. They might not have as much power as the Viper, but they lay it down. The car is 180degrees from the Viper. It is so sophisticated, you can't get in trouble. I have been a "hater" of the paddle shift fad, but the Ferrari is not just a paddle shift. It's a sophisticated manual transmission. I looked at a 360, but the maintenance schedule and costs is a big turn-off. You can't go wrong with a 430 or a GenIV Viper.

He brings it out to our local C&C, but it might be hard to get him to drive to WC. 202 is such a POS road! My Viper bottomed out the entire run.

I just bought my 08 Viper a month ago. I live in LA and see Lambos and Ferrari everyday and a ton of my friends have both. And actually about 3 of my friends now drive Vipers and they all say they would take the Viper any day of the week. I am with you. In the Viper you get positive attention and everyone likes it. The others you get people that hate you for it. I actually was at the car wash and a 430 and a 458 were also their and both owners walked up and commented on how awesome my ride was. And so did half the people at the car wash. The best was when the 458's owners little son yelled out "DAD DAD LOOK AT THAT VIPER " And cam e running over to my car. LOL!

As far as attention goes, this is coming from a guy who owned a murcielago. I find it that in a viper no matter where you go you get nothing but positive feed back from people of all ages, men or women. In the murci it was either love or hate. People either gave me thumbs up or looked at me as if I just ran their grandma over. Im sure a ferrari owner would exoerience the same as a lambo owner. I guess everyone loves American muscle........With that said if I could have just one car in my garage, it would be a viper.

I agree with everyone who says people tend to love the Viper. However, I was on the way home this Sat from the local C&C and was at a stop light in my Viper with my father next to me in his 458 Spyder and a group of guys in the left turning lane hung out the window and yelled "smoke his aXX Ferrari!"

Guess it goes both ways sometimes! I'll take it as a compliment. A 5 year old, $80k car is competitive with a new $450k car!

I hear that. My Viper was bottoming out the entire WC C&C Spring Drive in Lancaster County. That being said, I was on the drive with multiple Fcars (360, 430 Scud, and 458 included, and my 10 year old car can more tha hold it's own. (As long as there are no frost heaves or buggy ruts, LOL!)
