Mods ad some value depending on what your plans are for the car.
Wheels ad value most of the time. But taste plays a role always.

mods only add value if the person you are selling it to sees/apprecialtes the value in the mod, most of the time they diminsh value. In the long run to most devout car collectors stock/unmolested cars hold the most value, with a few excetptions

Vipers are kinda like Harleys in the respect that people like to personalize them and very few remain 100% stock. When I sold my last SRT the buyer liked the mods and paid for them albeit their were not a lot of fish biting; however, it only takes one. As long as you don't paint the car pink (or that awlful new Green on the SRTs) you should hopefully get .50 on the dollar when you sell. Some people (a lot of dealers) say .10 on the dollar but that is BS.

Can't think of a mod out there that adds value. Initially, I was concerned about what the mod would do to the value - but I love driving MY VIPER and enjoying the personal touches that make it mine. (That being said, I have saved every stock part and have tried to find a back-up replacement stock part for those that I have changed.)
Can't recall who coined the term, but there's always the "Leave it the hell alone mod".
One warning though - mods are like potato chips - you can't do just one.

I don't know Lauri, I think if you ever did sell your car you would get a decent amount for it. Not what you put into it obviously but enough to make you kind of happy! Your Gen1 is one of the nicest out there, right behind my previous Gen1!!

I would think the little ones as long as you keep the stock parts. Smooth tubes and filters, skip shift, short shifter or shortened bolt, power steering cap tube, speed bleeders, trunk struts etc.

The question was what mods ADD value. NOS is probably the quickest value KILLER there is! A well installed SC or TT can add value to a car. People hear NOS and automatically start having bad thoughts about what shape the engine is in. NOS is the completely wrong answer to this question!

As for major mods (to your Viper), most say to expect 10-30% of your investment on the return. Spend $10K in upgrades and expect $1,000 - $3,000 back. And even that is up in the air depending on how well the mods were done and by whom. If Billy Joe Bob slapped it together with duct tape, you may get a lot less than 10% - maybe closer to 1% or less. On the other hand, if it was a well known installer (Heffner, Levin, Cragin, etc.) that did the installation, you could see more than that on a return. Smaller mods like exhaust will get a decent return for name brands (Borla, Corsa, etc.), but you won't make a profit on them.
Bottom line is that NO mod will add enough value to offset the cost. That is just the way of the world. For those mods that people come to expect on a Viper: Smooth intake tubes and hi-flow filter (K&N, etc.). The least expensive horsepower mod on any Viper, most do this first.

A few weeks ago a guy with a 427 '72 Corvette at Baker's cruise said he just recently sold an all stock/mint '63 409 SS Impala for over $100,000 while displaying it at a car show in MI..
He told the wannabe buyer that it wasn't for sale. The other guy said, "Everything you own is for sale..!" Buyer builds offshore racers in FL, or so the story goes.

Value is relative. Dealers won't pay fair value for the mods, and shy away from them, that's for sure.

I believe that the ACR/BBS wheels are one of the few (if not the only one) mod that add value and where you don't loose on the cost of the mod .

Well this is quite the interesting thread. I can speak first hand that CERTAIN mods add value. I purchased my 95 2.5 years ago as a bone stock (needed help) GEN 1. Since then i have modded the heck out of the car, and 2 Viper dealers specifically agreed with my that my car was worth a lot more to them then a basic GEN 1. They offered me a VERY fair offer on trades for the GTS i am looking for, only reason i didn't do it yet, becuase the car was just not right. My mods were more cosmetic than anything else with all the basic performance mods.

I think an aftermarket exhaust adds some value mainly because so many people change their stock exhaust out as their first mod. Too many people cannot stand the sound of the stock exhaust. At least this is what I'm hoping as I just ordered mine.
Seriously, changing the exhaust was my first planned mod even before I bought my car. After my first test drive of a viper I said "what's wrong with the exhuast?" The salesman told me that's what the stock exhaust sounds like.
To garner the most value, the mod should appeal to the most people. Mod's like superchargers and TT's limit the number of potential buyers for many reasons but I think most people are nervous about buying a car with 600+hp.
