HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
530 AM CDT WED SEP 25 2002
...TROPICAL STORM CONTINUES NORTHWARD TRACK THROUGH THE GULF OF
MEXICO...
CLOUDY SKIES ARE EXPECTED THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY MORNING WITH LIGHT
RAIN EXPECTED TO SPREAD OVER MOST OF THE MIDSTATE TODAY. THE RAIN
AREA HAS ALREADY MOVED INTO THE EXTREME SOUTHERN AND SOUTHEASTERN
COUNTIES. HOWEVER...SIX HOURLY RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER NORTHERN ALABAMA
ARE RUNNING ONLY ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OR LESS.
AS THE TROPICAL STORM PUSHES FURTHER NORTH...SIX HOUR RAINFALL
AMOUNTS WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY WILL INCREASE TO ONE HALF
INCH AND POSSIBLY ONE INCH. GIVEN THE DROUGHT CONDITIONS OVER
MIDDLE TENNESSEE AND SURROUNDING AREAS THIS RAINFALL IS MUCH NEEDED
AND SHOULD NOT CAUSE FLOODING PROBLEMS BEFORE EARLY THURSDAY MORNING.
HOWEVER...NUMERICAL MODELS ARE PREDICTING THAT RAINFALL...
POSSIBLY HEAVY AT TIMES...WILL CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST THROUGH
FRIDAY MORNING OVER THE MIDSTATE. AS THE STORM MOVES NORTHWARD
AND FORECASTERS GAIN CONFIDENCE IN THE EXPECTED TRACK FROM OUR
NUMERICAL MODELS...THEN DECISIONS CAN BE MADE CONCERNING HEAVY
RAINFALL AMOUNTS AND POSSIBLY FLASH FLOOD WATCHES. RESIDENTS SHOULD
PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WEATHER INFORMATION FROM LOCAL MEDIA AND
NOAA WEATHER RADIO TO STAY ABREAST OF THE SITUATION.
