This months Motor Trend has a tiny little blurb about a Shelby Cobra Concept in coupe form that will be revealed at this years Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The only thing it says is (unlike the roadster version)that it's a real looker and harks back to the Daytona Cobra race cars designed by Peter Brock.

Also, it shares parts with the GT making it more viable for production.....

I'm Sure DC is listening, but will they respond? Could they actually let Ford and Chevy sit at the top in horsepower AND styling?

Inquiring minds wanna know.

In a word, no. I suspect the SRT Carbon was a very real exercise in horsepower, and I have not heard anybody from DC deny that a coupe is in the works. Haven't confirmed anything of course, but most car companies are quick to deny a project if it is not a reality. Fingers crossed for some good news at VOI!

One thing among many that DC is good at is keeping a secret. The ME412 totally caught everybody by surprise. A good number of our left leaning Senators could use a lesson from DC about keeping their traps shut, Leaky Leahy in particular.

I have a feeling that the look of this new Ford will be very similar to a GenII GTS. Wasn't the Daytona an inspiration for the Viper GTS sytling?

Gotta be a guess, as that is not close to what I am hearing. More importantly, why would DC redesign an engine that is holding up fine in the press and elsewhere? Note that the SRT Carbon was the showcase for new Viper stuff from DC (besides a coupe) and they use the "standard" 505ci V10 bumped up to 625 HP. I don't think that a new engine is necessary or practical - especially on a very limited number of cars. If it were to be expanded to the truck line (a Hemi V10), then it might make more sense from a quantity point of view, but little sense otherwise. The only advantage I could see would be a little more press (not needed) and better gas mileage (see the 300C/Magnum Hemi design, which shuts off 4 cylinders to save on fuel). Even then you would impact the numbers on the Vipers only, as the trucks are not as affected by the CAFE requirements for fuel economy. I just don't see it in play as it makes no financial sense for such a limited production car that already has lots of untapped potential in the current engine design. We shall see!

I can't imagine the Viper without a V-10, at least not in the current configuration. Maybe the next generation with mid-engine powerplants will have something new, like a TT anything.

At this point in time..... just wishing.

All they would have to do is redesign the heads.
