boggles my mind that the '13 GTS is 2 sec/lap slower than the ZR1. .02 I could live with. From the vid it sounds like the shocks/springs are too tight, brakes not nearly as effective and tires are junk. They are not things SRT can't fix on a "Real" track pack. The ACR better bring the heat because the C7 ZR1 is moving in for the kill.

Re: MotorTrend: Viper vs Zr1 at Laguna Seca

We will see what the numbers are on the retest. The Viper is harder to drive at the limits but has a higher limit. The retest will be done with someone experienced with the new Viper and, unless I am mistaken, a car that is not a mule or at least one that is closer to the production model. The one used in this test was a mule.

when are they planning on having the SRT test driver lap the same track again like Ralph tweeted?

Tires and brakes would definitely close the gap. Cup tires have unbelievable grip. That alone is probably worth at least worth one second faster lap times.

I thought it was a very good video and 2 fairly even matched cars. I know a lot of excuses are being made for the Viper. With that being said i will hold judgement till the production cars are rolled out.

thanks for posting

The retest may be happening now but I would guess that the results will be subject to an embargo until the article is released by the magazine online or wherever it is going to be released. I am hopeful since it would be totally absurd to do a retest without a very high dergree of confidence that SRT will win.

Probst seems to give a fair, unbiased assessment, I can accept that the Viper lost fairly (albeit with crappy tires and limited seat time). I think he's a stand up guy.

Johnny Lieberman, on the other hand, is just show boating, trying to stir the ***. He's there to sell mag rags and hype. Controversy sells. Hey, I wonder if that troll "Johnny Lightning" that used to frequent this site is really Johnny Lieberman? LOL :omg:

Re: MotorTrend: Viper vs Zr1 at Laguna Seca

More fun in a Subaru than a ZR1 or SRT?

Yes they are correct....there is no road in the world that would be able to challenge and max out my Viper, especially on sticky tires. Momentum cars like a Boxter, Suby, Miata, etc where you don't have 600 plus hp are often more fun on the road since you may be able to approach their limits. I can't think of one road where I could even use 70% of my Vipers potential without looking like a speed crazed **** potentially putting other motorists at risk.

With a Boxter or Miata, I could be 100% on the throttle in a lot of places without hitting warp speed. The only place you can really go all out with a car like the Viper or ZR1 is the track. A 15 second burst of speed on the street is like looking at the bra section of an old Macy's catalog.....not much fun.

Cheers,
George

Good video, explained a lot. I am not worried however, I have faith the Viper will beat the ZR1. SRT knows what's up.

Thanks for posting the video. From what Probst said, I think the Viper just needs some fine tuning. The ZR-1 has had years of fine tuning and just proved it on that video.

I can deal with the Viper being more expensive and less comfortable. But it really hurts when it's also slower on a track.

On the bright side, this is a huge victory for America. When will those arrogant, Clarkson wanna-be journalists admit that American cars can indeed "go-round-corners"?

Why does everyone say the SRT has inferior tires? Doesn't that car have the Track Pack which comes with P Zero Corsa tires? The Corsa's are as track oriented as the PSC as I ran them before on my Porsche and they are real sticky and predictable and wouldn't be any slower than the PSC. But I do believe the ZR1 has superior brakes, but that shouldn't make up 2 seconds. Forget using other drivers, just let me try out both cars and use my times Ralph... :D

I heard that Probst is driving the Vette so it will be two capable drivers who have experience with their respective vehicles. Rest assured that the Viper suspension will be checked to make sure that it is tuned perfectly and the engine calibration will also be pefect. I also would not be at all surprised if the tires used on the mule had been through too many track heat cycles and were also a bit overinflated. The mule was not perfect. Hopefully, Ralph at least gave a good tongue lashing to whoever allowed that mule to be used in comparo tests agaist a well prepped production ZR1. People have been fired in this world for far less.

LOL on the floor!

Terrific. Anyone know who's gonna drive the ZR1?

That would be more of a fair fight. They could really mix it up and put the same tires on the cars and see what happens. Michelin Pilot Sport Cups are available in 345/30-19s, which is just 10mm under the Viper's rear 355s. I wonder if that width difference would mess up the handling?

Honestly, I'd love to see a Viper with Corsas run laps, then put on the PMSC's and compare lap times. That would answer a lot of questions.

We could use some more wins against the ZR1, which I've gained quite a bit of respect for.

Thanks for posting. Good to see SRT address the seat and wind noise issue. Waiting to see the production cars rematch.
