Been chasing this car since I was a kid. Fell in love originally with the red of course and never remember seeing a green in person but there is just something about it, especially when the sun hits it, its unmistakable and there is nothing else on the road like a Gen 1. So middle of the summer, I white knuckled it home 3 hours on what can only be described as vintage rubber...i know, i know. And thanks to this forum I also knew to take it straight to Tator's Garage for a checkup. Chuck is a legend...incredible mechanic and just an incredible guy. Got a fresh set of tires from Jon B. who i also found on this forum (love hearing his viper stories), then it was time to hit the road! Put on over 2k miles since the summer and cant wait for the weather to warm up and do some more.
I have a love/hate relationship with the 3 spoke rims, I've seen some painted black that look pretty cool, but I wanted to keep mine original, so I found a decent set of forged Gen2 rims and got them done in bronze to go with the tan interior. Haven't seen many others like it and rarely ever see any pics of the green even in the viper books or pictures from the Viper events. Not sure why that is, I think the green and tan is a killer combo.
Couple of quick questions:
1) My passenger door handle works, but it doesnt "kick" the door out automatically, you have to put your shoulder into it or pull it from outside. Anybody else have this issue?
2) Currently working on a custom exhaust that bolts on to the manifold, so I can keep my stock one just in case. I bought hi flo cats from belanger, found oem exhaust tips and am looking at a couple different mufflers. I just want something that opens it up a little but isn't so loud you need earplugs. If anyone has experience with any of these, please let me know:
- titanium mufflers from Ticon or Vibrant (i dont know if anybody has put titanium on a gen1???)
- Jones/Aero Turbine XL mufflers (people seem to like the moroso spirals and this seems similar but with resonator+muffler)
- Flowmaster HP2 or dBX (i dont want to put flowmasters on it, but this might be in the right sound level that i am looking for)
3) Does anyone have parts from their old stock exhaust that you are willing to sell? I am looking specifically for the "J pipe" section (flange + flex pipe up until the cat)
Thanks to everyone on this forum who helps people like me figure stuff out and thanks to Chuck who went over everything with me like I just bought it off the lot in 1995. Getting this car was literally making a childhood dream come true and sometimes I still cant believe it!
