Have next week off with nothing to do put my exhaust on my 97 GTS.
Plan on taking things nice and slow, and take it easy when things get frustrating, call it a day.
Have lots of working room, air tools, etc, so tooling should not be an issue, here's my el cheapo setup:
Factory 1997 exhaust from end to end removed, oiled up, and mothballed to be sold for 100K in 30 years to billionaire collector of choice!
Factory 2000 exhaust from end to end purchased.
Putting on the newer style headers, then Roe Ovals, prewelded from the header flange to the cat. From there to the existing 2000 piping to rear resonators. From there 2000 rear cat back system with muffler removed with welded in crossover (2").
My thinking is if I find it too loud minus the muffler, I can add back a Corsa after some seat time.
Intended gain in the 30-35 horse gain at the tires. Headers 10, cats 15, and rear **** delete of 10. Will dyno at previous dyno location to attempt to minimize variance.
Any comments suggestions from those in the know would be appreciated, as I only plan on doing this once!
Specific concerns:
My existing manifold bolts are too long for the newer style header, anyone know what header size (length) I will be needing?
Recommendations, stainless, any manufacturer highly regarded?
The flange from the header to the cat section is simply enough, but what about after the Roe cat, should that be clamped or welded. (from there all clamps are existing 2000)
Anyone think the rear resonators should be dropped in favor of a straight pipe, Sean Roe gained a few horse only, which could be dyno variance, so as of now, they are staying in???
What about heat shielding, as I do not have the 2000 heat shielding, the manifold shielding (OEM 97) will not not fit on the headers. Some threads fear engine room heat issues sans factory shielding?
Should side sill insulation be removed with the cooler cats, or replaced with new (depending on condition of existing?), dropped completely?
Sorry for all the Qs, any advice would be greatly appreciated, as well as install/removal snags some may have encountered, as this is only happening once, after this it's boooooooost time......
Hours of research with the search function, just wondering if I may have missed something.
Thanks gang, hopefully I can leave the UPS note once and for all, with cooler sills and some HP gains to boot, a win win win if there ever was one!!
