Taking the Viper to friend's B-day party. Decided to take a detour to make the trip longer and more interesting. The trip happened to be near a shop I keep my lathe and boat. As I drive across a bridge close to the shop, shifting to 5th, the factory shifter just let loose in my hand.:crazy2: I reach through the leather boot and I find that I can still manage to move the remaining part to stay in mid gears. Managed to time traffic lights to get to the shop.
Pulled the console quickly and find out the aftermarket short shifter is either a B&M or some other make. The part that broke is the adapter unit and the upper fine thread just sheared right off. Machined the part down making it a bit shorter and the hole assembly back together in no time. The shorter shaft feels actually better. On my way to my buddy's place a little more clip than the posted speed limit I pass a Toyota Venza Crossover with tinted windows and go front of him keeping the pace. Voila, I got lit up, freaking ghost car:omg: First he comes up with the lecture treatment that he could confiscate my car and charge me $ 590 for excessive speeding. According to the cop, he was traveling 120 kmph in the 100 zone and I passed him like he was standing still :rolaugh:. Finally I told him the reason I was in a hurry because the time I lost fixing my gear shifter:eater:. He mellowed out and let me off the charge. Go forward 25 minutes, I'm rolling close to my buddy's place coming to an intersection with stop sign. Was going to turn left on the main road where another cop car just served a ticket to a poor shmuck! The cop was stopped on the road blocking me passing by but waived me to go pass him on the opposite side:2tu:. As I pull beside and start going back to my lane ,he pulls behind an lit me up. I say what a :mad:f....k? He ask me if I know why he pulled me, I say don't have a clue:rolaugh:. He sad the fine for no front plate is $197:crazy2: While he's asking me questions an old fart pulls behind the cop car that blocking him this time. The cop waving him to go around but the old geezer was in a bad mood and starting to scould the cop doing illegal stop in the middle of the road:rolaugh:.Cop gets pissy and tells the old guy to buzz off. Ol' guy floors the gas and takes off. Told the cop I was about to get a better holder that won't fall off the car. Guess the cop didn't want to look too disturbed and let me off the hook. So it was a great ending:headbang:.

Lucky Day?

Got the car going quick, didn't get any tickets I deserved to pay for, no points on my dr licence, so yes. Lucky day for me:headbang:
Here in the socialist republic of Canada, you got pulled over going 40kmph over the posted speed limit, they can confiscate your car for a month, pay impound fees and storage, sum can be in the thousands by the time you get your car back!

Same thing happened to me the other day on the track. The shifter just broke in half similar to yours. Unfortunately I was in the middle of a downshift at the end of the back straight at Mid Ohio. The transmission ended up in neutral and I was lucky enough to coast to a stop safely behind a wall. As I sat there I removed the console bezel and was just able to get a finger on the lever and pop it into 3rd gear. I managed to drive it back to the pits that way. No tow truck fees! I machined the broken piece flat and drilled and tapped it for a stud which will make it stronger than the original. My shifter is a B&M and looks like yours in the photos.

Looks like yours broke on the bottom [ coarse ] thread that goes into the shifter lever. Mine broke the fine thread on top that goes into the factory shifter shaft. I'm going to machine a piece later out of tool steel. The B&M adapter is too soft.
