My new Kumho tires offer great traction

My new Kumho tires offer great traction, no more wheel hopping "pilot" induced damage. V700 Victor racer are 17's and were less than $700 delivered for four.These changed the way my car handles ,(95 w/nitrous)so much that can't believe it can actually get traction out of the hole. NO MORE HOPPING REAR END.

Did you have the half shafts upgraded? What were your times? I'm guessing you have the 125hp shot.

I just got new pilots around,the new 345 is great,looks more racey that 335.Hope U post your 1/4mile times with those new tires asap.

They are the stock size,(335 rear,275 front) Z rated 17's that fit my stock rims just like the Mich. pilots and they corner much better , DOT legal road race-auto cross soft compound treaded tires. They work good in the rain also. I assume that they will wear faster but at that price and performance I will never use a pure street tire again. No times yet but they will be a half sec. to a full sec. faster from the way it feels. (Race Tires for a Race car at a normal price!!!)

They also have a 315 in the Kumho Victoracer 700. This is a good choice for the front, if you plan on doing alot of autocrosses, track time, etc. I have a used set on my 2000, and they will wear
alot faster than conventional street tires , but not as fast as a set of Hoosiers ( also DOT ). You are probably a minimum of a second faster on the track, and more likely to be in the 2 second range. For the price , Kumho makes a killer track/street tire. They are supposedly coming out with a street tire in the right sizes for Vipers in the very near future, and the price will be very competitive. Keep in mind , if you want to run in Viper Days, you will need Michelins or Hoosier - the two spec tires for the series and sponsors , also.

Partsrack has them and so does tire rack (www.tirerack.com) , I think jom B. at parts rack,(360-832-3937) was selling them for $639 for a set of four, (plus shipping). His price was a little better than tire rack. Mike

could you explain the handling of the car on street roads with the tires in comparison to Michleins? starting to lean over to the Kumho side of things for my upcoming set to avoid the 2 front rim to bead up to the Nitto thing, your solution seems much better if road handling is not completely ruined. Corners are a good thing!!

Well, with all this talking about hooking with no wheel hop, I just had to try some. Ordered today from Tire Rack just the rears @$170 each.

I'll more then likely get the fronts also after I see how much the car pushs in turns with the gummy tires on the back. My main concern is straight line performance

I hate this post! I bought new Pilots a couple weeks ago and paid more for them than the Kumho. I debated between the two and looks like I made the wrong choice! Still lots of wheel hop and crappy traction.

Street handling is great is great , they really stick in the turns and I can get on the gas without the rear end stepping out and sliding into a curb or something. When they slide , it is very predictable and easily controlled. They remind me of the slicks on my racing kart, (Swiss Hutless direct drive W/parilla TT75). Mike

Too bad the newer Vipers can not use them because of wheel size.

I have only used the Kumho autox tires on the rear because they are so soft that they pick up pebbles and send them flying. I was concerned that if I had them in front I'd end up with small paint chips on the sides of the car.

Also be carefull as they wear down. They will suddenly not be decent rain tires anymore and it'll catch you off guard. That's another reason to go with performance street tires in front. When the Kumho's get low enough to hydroplane the back will slide but the front will not (if you have street tires in front) and thus you will not wreck your car. Unless you're a really really careful driver in the rain you may want to use the fronts for autox only. It might save you from a wreck later.

****Whats up with people mixing different types of tires(front and rear) ? I was under the impression that you NEVER mix different types of tires,they should all be the same brand. ****

The main reason not to mix tires is for limited slip differentials. The two brands of tire are usually not the same circumference even though they have the same 315/35ZR17 size rating. With a different circumference the tires are always spinning at different speeds and thus your diff is always in use. This builds up heat in the diff and can cause failure.

With a 4wd you must always have the same tires in each corner because there's a diff for side to side variance at the front axle and one at the rear axle. Plus there's a center diff to handle speed variance btw front and rear axles. If one tire gets too far off the correct size (underinflated, or different circumference) the AWD system can overheat a diff.

With a RWD you only have a diff for side to side variance in rotational speed at the rear end of the car. Thus you should have the two rear tires the same size and tire type.

The fronts can be any size you want. You can run front tires that resemble bike tires (aka "skinnies") like serious guys do at the strip if you want. This fact also allows you to run huge slicks in back and use normal street tires in front without problems too.

The only drawback is that the different tires (frt & rr) will have to be ordered with handling in mind. Running autox tires in back and street tires in front usually causes understeer when racing around corners. Understeer (car doesn't turn following the line you tell planned) in my opinion is much better than oversteer (rear end swings around and tries to pass the front) for safety and thus another reason for going with race rubber in the rear and good street tires in the front.

cycleryan what tires did you have on before the Kumhos & how old were they? Just wondering if maybe your old tires were hard and didn't grip good. So maybe the Kumho tires are not much better than new Sports, they just seemed better compared to your old hard tires? I'm in need of some rear tires and an thinking of trying out the Kumhos just for the rear and see if they are really any better. If I like them, I will then replace the fronts also. These are radials, not bias-ply right? Thanks

Well, my Kumho's came in today and just by feel I can tell they are going to hook hard

They are gum balls!

I drove the crap out of my car last night and I could not get them to push unless I was REALLY trying to over drive the car.I can hit the nitrous WAY sooner now. These sticky tires are the best mod. yet.They seem to get up to temp. quickly or it could be the warm weather here in Texas.

These tires sound great. What are the drawbacks, other than increased wear time? Do they kick up rocks on your paint, etc... due to the extreme soft compound? What is the expected life of the tire - compared to Pilots (25%, 50% 75%)? How about ride quality? Cornering limits? Driver feedback? Keep the info. coming!!!

I justmy kumhoes tonight has anyone dragged with them yet? If not I will be this Saturday and will post. Treadwear is 50 which should be good I have previously used BF goodrich drag radials and pulled 1.6 60 ft times but they have a 0 tradwear so we will see
