My Revolution lift install (today) with PIC\'s !!! Pro\'s and Con\'s...

Just finished the install.

The pro's;
1-Very well built.
2-2 guys, 4 hours complete.

The con's;
1-One of the latches were installed backwards from the factory. Had to take apart and put together correctly.
2-Packing for shipping was horrible(scratches all over the place).
3-Went to turn it on and one of the wires wasn't even wired(thought it was my outlets for a while).

Overall,I would do it again(and might). My friend that helped me had done several(not Revolution)lifts before. Without him I never would have known the safety latch was installed backwards until the whole thing was together.

Question, from the pics it does not appear that you have bolted the lift to the floor. Is that true?

I installed mine on Saturday and will post pics hopefully soon.

I agree with your evaluation, my lift arrived pretty banged up as well. I guess they must figure that is going to happen as a can of touch up paint is included. The lift is packaged with c-channel steel brackets to keep it up off the ground/truck, both of mine were completely folded over. Some of the 2x4's separating the posts from the ramps had worked their way out.... causing more paint issues... and one strap had broke. All of this made it a challenge getting it off the truck.

Once I got it all unpacked, I found one of the braces under the non-cylinder ramp had been bent pretty bad too, (it is a non-functional brace - the ramp design is the same for the cylinder ramp and the non-cylinder ramp, the brace is in it for the cylinder ramp), so I will just bend it back when I get around to it.

I had it all unpacked and organised when my (3) buddies arrived. We had a ball putting it together. It was tricky (needed a needle nose pliers) to get nuts in place on the latch safety mechanism, and I had to use a pry bar to jockey the ramps around so I could get the lower bolts in place. I picked up a few washers to use behind bolts that when into slots.

It took us about two hours to get it all together, dollies and a stack of short pieces of 2x4 helped a lot. I had it wired up (230V) and leveled in another 45 minutes. I did not check the locks, glad they were all right! It would have been a pain to fix after it was all together.

I did do one really stupid thing. I believed the 12 quarts of fluid the manual said it would take..... I put in 8, ran the lift up and leveled it... and before lowing it, I put in the last 4 quarts. When I lowered it, I found out the lift really only needs 10?.... 11? quarts (as oil came gushing out the vent cap) Oops. Luckily I had paper towels and oil absorbant real close. What a messy mistake :)

One neat feature I was surprised to see was the pulley bearings where not roller or bronze, but "DU". "DU" is a self lubricating bearing material made from teflon suspended in a bronze matrix. It is what we use in the A/C compressors we make at the plant where I work... it is very expensive, and nearly indestructable.

It is extemely high quality and solid as a rock even though it is not anchored. I love it and am tickled to death. Now that I have used it to change oil, diagnose an exhaust leak, and chase down an oil leak....I can't believe I waited this long to buy one. In my opinion, anyone who works on their own car needs a lift.

I forgot about that one. I had fluid all over the place also. They need to say 10 or 11 quarts at first.

Looks great twinvipers!

One question...I'm planing on doing my garage floor, probably with the floor epoxy like I see you've done. Which is yours, is it the Rustoleum ?

I'm debating that or uucoatit.com, pricey, but looks outstganding.

Thanks Cal,

I'm pretty sure it is Rustoleum(I bought it at Home Depot in a Blue and Gray box).2 part and has little paint chips you throw down if desired.

Jeff that's a beautiful garage and you have room for two more lifts. :) The space looks tight where the pump is mounted did you consider locating it in the front?

Thanks Hemi,

Down the road I will put 1 or 2 more lifts if I don't build a detached garage behind the house.

I wanted it out of the way. No problem at all getting to it. I even had to take it apart after it was mounted to wire the switch.

FYI, I used a two part epoxy floor paint by Valspar that I got from Lowe's. It has prooved to be pretty tough. Only thing I would do different is get a little darker color as it did "stain" during it's early life. Now that it has been down about a year, nothing stains it. Keep in mind there are many types of epoxy floor paint. Two-part water based being the weakest (avoid if possible), two-part high-build, high-solids being the best. I put it down on an older floor, friends said it would "lift". I cleaned and etched and degreased the floor.... many times. The the floor sucked up the paint like a sponge when it went on, no lifting issues at all.

Jon,
I have trails all over my neiborhood.Out of the garage, down the street and into the woods.

Thanks Jay and Scott.

JW,
My ceiling height is 9'7". I need to put some Black stripes on the lift to make it go up and down faster.

If you don't mine paying an extra $100 just mention that your a VCA member and it's yours. I purchased the XLT model in December 2004 for $3274.00, delivered. It has made my life easier installing mods and detailing ( back problems).Just set the Viper to waist height and place tools on the runway, no bending or straining. Click on Avitar pictures to see my setup. Rick

I was thinking about doing the floor with this:

http://www.ucoatit.com/index.html

They even show a custom Viper job (click on the 'take the UCoat it tour' link, then click the right arrow, and under the 'Do it right...' column is a Viper job you can click on to enlarge.

Thanks for the post Jay... now I wonder about the UCoat it... maybe the Rustoleum is a safer bet.

Not sure, but you could call up Donnie at Revolution and beg, it never hurts to ask ;)

If you look at the stickies at the top of this forum there are a few group buys and a VCA deal on a Bend-Pak lift going on right now.

I choose the Revolution for the reasons stated above and I did not want to run air which is required for the Bend-Pak lift safety releases. Commercial lifts use air, and the Bend-Pak is based on their commercial design.

AB also found a very reasonably priced lift which sort of got all the group buys going. It was only like $1850(+/-) + shipping even without the group buy he had arranged. It included drip pans, jack trays and the wheels package. It was a little narrower than the Revolution as I recall, but I gave it serious consideration.

How about putting RaceDeck instead of painting?
