Glad to hear RSI is taking care of you. I remember watching your white coupe vids back in the day (before you painted the hood haha), that was one of the best sounding vipers i've ever heard, to this day--perks of the gen II exhaust routing i guess.

LOL yeah my "custom pained" black diamond-back hood. That car did sound amazing. The rear exit exhaust cannot be beat as far as sound.

That would have been the first thing I asked for with AFR readouts. Either way, now you get to turn up the boost and not worry about it! Good luck with the build!

Thanks! Are running a paxton as well? If so how many pounds of boost?
What I did was buy a stock spare motor and rebuild it with all forged parts. Still finishing the paxton build did not want to do it twice.

Smart! I was hopping to run around on 5lbs for a while but i guess that wasnt in the cards for me.

I was thinking the same but said just do it right and be done with it. Did you change the valve cover on your car to the 03-04, and why?

I did not but had RSI paint a set for me and they engraved them with RSI logos. I didn't know the 03/04 valve covers are different from05/06. What's the difference?

The 03-04 valve cover breather are at the rear of the valve cover, and the 05+ came from the front. ( if I'm not mistaken) The one in the pic is from the rear, and coup's are 06+, that's why I asked. Not a big deal I was just wondering why you were running one.

RSI had a set there that they sent out and had them painted up for me. They must have used the older versions. Is there any other significant advantages of having an 04 or 05 cover?

Damn. It blew up on low boost and an aem tune. Mine is still running the Paxton fmu and split second setup. Making me worried.

Further inspection of the motor shows wear and tear to other parts of the bottom end. Showing evidence of the motor being on the way out already. Dester243 keep in mind the car was not fully tuned and went **** on the first dyno pull. All these motors are hand built and some just last longer then others. Plenty of guys running stock loose bearings and pistons.

All in all, after talking to Will at RSI its very evident the motor was on the way out. This little extra cylinder pressure just helped it along the way.

This what I would be afraid of I'm gonna get a spare block and just start build bullet proof bottom end

How much have or how much should one expect to spend on a spare block? I am thinking of getting one ready

Sorry to hear that happened to your car. Will be great when it comes back. But yes I did see tony would have won the bet and recommended not using the AEM...you had to think of what he said when RSI told you you had a bad AEM..lol

To be honest, I don't think there is any "significant advantages" to having the 03-04 valve covers over the 05+ from what I remember. I don't remember why SRT change it in the first place. I read it a few year ago but can't find it now. Dan ( Viper Specialist) will know.

Sorry to hear about the engine letting go. Get RSI to do the billet oil pump gear upgrade while they are building the engine. I'm about to do this to my engine, as my factory oil pump gear recently broke. Not surprised to hear about the AEM failure, it is more common than gets reported on this site.

Contact RacingSolutions.com for pump info. It isn't cheap, and it requires you to remove the front cover from the engine and have them machine it. Really only good to do with engine already out of the car.

How much boost you planning now anton with the built bottom end. You should have a well sorted piece now capable of some great numbers and be reliable. Looking forward to your results.

I'm not sure yet Todd. I told Will to tune it to the point where I can beat the **** out of it over the next 5 years on 91 octane and not worry about anything breaking. We will see what he decides.

Quick update. As of today. The motor is fully assembled and the heads are complete and back at the shop. All should be going back together next week. The wait continues.........

What heads did you go with? Also what clutch? With more power you will need one to handle the power

When you get it back check the fuel table in your tune on your AEM so you don't melt your pistons like my RSI tune did. Also get a real Dyno number in 4th gear not 5th gear that adds ~200 to the real numbers.

I worked with AEM on the first stand alone systems for the Viper, I provided them with the first development car a 96 GTS. We did have a bunch of issues at first, a hardware change was needed to add an additional ground for the wideband sensors and there were some software updates, but after all that, the system worked well for big cam motors and forced induction. This system is no longer made, so the computers are hard to get.

AEM is finishing a Gen 4 Infinity system for me now on a race car, Im really excited.

The tuning business is tough, plus when you are building big power you walk a fine line. On forced induction engines any change in fuel or **** injection can lead to a failure. Tuners often get blamed for failures, some claims are founded, many are not.

I only dealt with the old RSI, but what I have heard of the new RSI has been good. Todd at AC is very reputable and I think his endorsement of them should be considered.

My 2 cents, your opinion could differ.

quick update. The car should be up and running and tuned by Friday. Fingers crossed! Decided to have RSI install a watermeth kit as we are not running much more boost then originally expected.
