Re recent discussion on this board, here's drawings and some pics of the simple mechanical lock system, that I made up to stop any one uninvited, being able to pop my beloveds hood (That's "any one"...ie: other that me!).

You will see that you need to purchase a slim / tall padlock. The plate is cut from a piece of angle iron, and then painted once the hole and slot are cut into it. Drill hole in plate big enough for padlock to pass through, and also this size on the hood release handle. (I used a small hand powered drill for the hood handle as it is only plastic and easy to drill, I did it while still on the Viper, by passing my arms through the front fascia to operate the drill. Caution do not slip back with drill or you will be needing a new radiator - ouch) The slot in the plate I cut by electric drill with a small sized bit, then knocked the shape of the rectangle out, and then hand filed it off to neat rectangle size. The slot passes first over the opposite end of the hood handle that you depress, and when locked in place with the padlock, which passes through the end of the handle and the plate in situ. The plate stops the depression of the handle to operate the hood release, by obstructing the handles movement against the plate that bolts the handle to the car. Hope you can follow these details, if you find the design useful for application to your snake. It is a bit of a fiddle to keep taking on and off, and you need to kneel down to to see really what you're doing. All the best! And, thank to Neil in the UK for his help with posting the picture and computerizing my diagrams.

Nadine,
Nice work!
why did you you go through the trouble?
Are things worse in the UK than stateside?( I doubt it)
Or were you bored? Or maybe you just have a talent in design
and wanted to exercise it?
Again you are obviously VERY thorough, is this type of thing your vocation?

I guess it's ok to leave the keys in yer F50 and yer wallet on the dash if you live in the pleasant town of Bernardino.

Just kidding!

Hi Bad Viper Wayne, in response to your question:

I don't mind taking anyone out for a spin in my Viper, but I couldn't bear the thought of anyone touching him, especially in his engine bay...so I made him a kind of chastity-belt.
