The only way that you "win" is that you shrug it off as only an object and that it means nothing to you to get it repainted. Otherwise, the perp gets exactly what they were going for.

Unfortunately, that is probably impossible for you to do.

Sorry to see that Wayne. Where and at what time of day or night did it happen? Did the police go to the trouble of dusting for prints or looking for shoe/sole marks on the ground near the car? Generally, they do not do much for a keyed car but maybe because it was so extensive they were more interested.

You would hope so, given the extent of the damage (>$1000) and being willful/malicious versus negligent. This should be a felony crime. Check your state's criminal code.

I don't understand people sometimes. It's not like a lot of us flaunt our cars around just because they're expensive and we want people to know it. I spent my money on something because I enjoy it and it makes me happy. To me this is no different than going to someone's house and kicking their dog. They probably love that dog and don't appreciate people hurting it. A car might be an inanimate object, but it can create the same kind of feelings.

Yes, those are the words that caught my attention after looking more closely. Hopefully that would have induced the police department to to investigate seriously.
