My Viper tech is out racing in the desert. In the mean time, my daily driver starts to act up. The clutch will travel freely, as in no pressure, for the first 3 inches of travel. Then the pressure is fine and it shifts normally. Is the reliable '95 headed for a bigger problem? The clutch was replaced 4,000 miles ago. What do you think? Is it safe or wise to drive the car a few miles here and there until I get it fixed?

Sounds like a clutch hydraulic problem. Check the fluid level, there may be a leak and low level has permitted air to enter. If this is case you will need new seals but just keep it topped up in the meantime

Is there any fluid or residue under the bell?

I suspect you have a leaking SLAVE CYLINDER on the throw-out bearing, inside the bell.

To answer your question........it could quit working altogether, and would likley happen to ME at the MOST INCONVENIENT or most embarassing time possible. Like while pacing a race on live TV or something horrible.....

I have same problem. Most of the time, nothing wrong. Some of the time, play in the clutch. First time I was told new flywheel did it and it's normal, it was not because the line needed bleeded - BOGUS. Second time I was told the new Vipers clutch feels the same way - BOGUS. The lines were bled, play is not near as much but it's still there. I think one more bleeding would cure mine.

My clutch did the same thing before my slave cylinder went out (just like JonB diagnosed).

Zero fluid in the well !!!!! I will top off to get me through. When I top off should I pump it up, or will that cause it to leak out faster?

Okay, here's the scenario-

Car's clutch worked fine. Had new transmission put in. When I got car back, clutch had no pressure till foot pushed clutch in about 3 inches. Would pump up and get pressure back. Took back and had bled again. Clutch rarely has play at all now. But my thoughts were that it probably still has a little air left in lines. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know if the clutch slave cylinder is covered under Chrylser's 7 year 50,000 mile extennded warranty? I read that clutch parts are not covered, but I assumed that is due to the possible premature wear the clutch disc, flywheel and throw out bearing could be subjected to if the car was to be abused.
Anyone out there had a clutch slave cylinder replaced under warranty?
