I am looking for a very light but confortable racing seat.
I would like something providing some protection againts side impacts and the head.

I will have to order the seat on the web so I won't be able to test it before.
I need a seat to fit a 38-40 weist size guy.

What are the best products on the market and where can I buy them ?

I don't want to buy necessarely the most expensive one but I need something good quality that I can install and remove easily.

I have two of the Cobra Suzuka GT's in my car and love them for the track and if I did drive it on the street I think they are some of the most comfortable seats anywhere! They have all the support you could ask for even without harnesses they would hold you in place very well.

I have a Cobra seat I took out of one of my Vipers. I no longer need the seat if you are interested.

Kirkey makes inexpensive road race and circle track seats. They are aluminum shells with very little padding, but because they are so supportive, they are the most comfortable seats I have. You will have to re-measure yourself since many seats are sized in width rather than waist. For instance, I'm 33 waist, but have a 15" wide seat.

My seats have sides at the hip, under the ribs, and some smaller sides at your shoulders. With the 15" seat (second smallest size) the various wings barely fits between the tunnel, the door sill and the door itself. A seat with more padding might even be wider. You might be in for a disappointment with a "shell" type seat when it doesn't fit.

Yes, I will likely need a 18'' wide seat but I want to seat tight and comfortable.
This is why I was talking about my waist size 38.
By the way the seat is for track use.

Any other personal suggestions for the racing seats ? I am especially interested in safety and comfort.

Is there a company that publishes safety evaluation on after market seats ?

I've always found seat choice a bit limited in a Viper due to needing a narrow upper seat back to fit in, ie the shoulder width, and fitting the base side width. I've used the Sparco Pro2000 which is FIA approved, and rigid. They even do it in carbon if you want to save on weight, I think it's only about 12lbs, but obviously more expensive than in fiberglass. It's a popular seat used in many of the car racing championships over here. They do a Sparco S-light seat in carbon only, but it's expensive. It's even slightly narrower I think on the base and they market it's designed for saftey and comfort. The Cobra Imola and Suzuka (as previously mentioned) will also fit, and they are FIA approved and HANS compatible. If I remember right they have a 'techno' seat foam that moulds to your shape and a cool tech material covering. Its a shame you cant get to a shop and try sitting in several seats, to check it doesn't feel too high at the front on your legs, and that you are snug in it.
