I've got stones bouncing off the bottom of the mirrors and flying in the car.:D

It would be better if the sills were sound deadened. All I can hear is the stones bouncing off the metal sills.:dunno:

I don't mind clear bra-ing but the stones will eventually start scratching the 3M film and shred it white.:smirk:

get the heavier 3m clear and cover the entire sill, up to where the indentation is below the SRT emblem and also behind the rear wheel ....you cant even tell its there and does a great job

I had the same problem with my 2000 and fashioned a set of clip-on "gaurds" that have taken a heck of a beating...the sills still got some rash thought. The guards have all kinds of nicks, and other abuse on the wheel side.

I have removed both sills for painting, and the shop suggested using the 3M stuff cut to to fit the bottoms.

Still, I think the guards helped....I got a screw on flat generic splash guard...cut it to shape...etc. I suppose I could make more if there's a need.

The ones I made simply clip onto the front part of the sill on my 2000, where it has a lip right behind the wheel. Easy and fast on and off.

Any car with soft tires has a similar problem. I also made a set for my '03 Cobra, except these are also held on with a screw.

Thanks, I had the Michelin Sport Cups on my GTS and those REALLY threw up the gravel.

I'll need to repaint the sills, I'd just like to fix the "cause" not just the problem.:dunno:

Andrew,

Check out Line X, http://www.line-x.com. I talked to the owner out here in Ct and he told me for around $300.00 he could color match the side sills. he also said that the coating can be applied in a smooth mirror finish and not like the rough finish on a pickup truck bed.

My sills are so stone chipped underneath it isn't worth it to worry about it anymore. Oh well....... If I get a new car that isn't chipped 3M clear bra will be the first thing I have done to it.

That's a good idea Robbie. The BMW sills have have something like that on them.

Yes Fast Too, I bought my SRT with 3k miles on it and when I went to wax it for the first time I realize the sills were so shot I didn't even bother waxing them.

If I can't find a fix, I won't repaint them till I need to sell it. You really can see it.

Clear mask would be great, but I've been told by multiple clear mask installers that the side sill heat will yellow the material. If anyone out there actually has clear mask over the entire sidesill, especially including near the front directly over the cat converter, I'd like to hear if you are having any issues and, if not, what kind of clear mask you have (3M or other).

I'm having extensive paint work, including the sills, done on my SRT. I'm having AutoForm sill extensions installed because I think they will act as stone guards. I'm having the OE cats replaced with hi flow cats my Viper tech says will reduce the sill temps by about 30 degrees (sill temps over the cats were 255 degrees F after a 20 minute track session on a mild day). I'm also having clear mask applied to the sill above the extensions...I'm hoping that the cat change will cool it enough to prevent yellowing.
