some of you may have seen my post asking opinions on silver vs. white stripes. well, i was calling around to find someone to do the vinyl stripes, and talked to a guy that does custom paint and graphics, and he said the vinyl would be hard toget perfect and very labor intensive (ie. expensive to install). he said he would paint the stripes on, and clear coat them, for $892. i thought it would cost 3 or 4 times that to paint. he has been in business 20 years, and just did some work on a viper. does this sound fishy, or is it a good deal?
any input is appreciated.

Too cheap!!! Should be at least twice that for a quality job. Buyer beware.

P.S. Has he ever painted stripes on a Viper before. Looked at his work?

$892.00 for the entire car striped, NO WAY! Way too cheap, should cost apx 2500.00-3000.00 id done properly. Ask for past viper references that hes worked on.

A good striper with quality vinyl I would think would be around that price or cheaper! With the vinyl stripes it's all in material quality and installer quality. HEY, just like painted on stripes! Talk to some dealers to see who is doing the majority of the new car and truck stripes and graphics and go talk to him.

Look at the Viper He did. Make sure you are comfortable with the amount of orange peel after he is done, imperfections in clear coat (runs, high spots, etc) and then check the one he did for a lot of overspray, especially the front and rear clip.

Price seems a bit chip given the time and materials.

I think vinyl is the way to go... It should be much cheaper and when you get bored of the stripes or you get a new owner that doesn't want them you can take them off... it also gets rid of the questions about a fishy repaint out of the way.

well, did some more homework. no one seems to want to do the vinyl. they say it's too difficult. the paint quote of $892 was only clearcoating over the new stripes. he quoted $1725 to paint the stripes, and clear coat the whole thing.
does that sound better? i think it's a pretty good price, from what i have seen posted.
thoughts?

RUN from this body shop...Post another thread..."Anyone in Atlanta know a good body shop?"...This will be more effective in finding you a body shop worthy of your viper...These guys sound like clowns...How are you gonna just clear "the stripes"...You can't blend them with the hood like that...
