First off thanks to John Slaughter for checking out 99 viper for me and Jannie for the offer to check out the car as well, this board is great. I am amazed at how helpful viper owners are. The 99 viper that John went to check out had some issues(clearly not taken care of), so I passed on it.

Now on to the real deal.

Hendrick Dodge of Raleigh has an 01 Yellow GTS with 496 miles on it. Dealer says it was a trade in from a former customer but the carfax says differently:

The Carfax database contains a total of 3 vehicle history records on this 2001 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe (1B3ER69E01V703133):

04/16/2001 Michigan
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Saint Petersburg, FL
Registered as commercial vehicle
---------------

07/10/2001 489 Auto Auction
Sold at auction
in Southeast Region
Listed as a dealer sale

---------------

07/18/2001 492 North Carolina
Inspection Station
Cary, NC
Passed emissions inspection

It just amazes me, I am sure it was a mistake or someone was misinformed.

Anyway, the gave me a reasonalbe offer on my vette, 3.5k below what I but that is neither here nor there. I will probably sell it on my own. They want 69k for the viper. Based on what I have read and input from other members this seems a little on the high side. I would think 65 would be great, 67 fair, and 69 a little on the high side for a car with less than 500 miles. Someone obviously hit a curb with the front airdam and there is a 4 in crack in the paint. Any insight or thoughts on this deal would be appreciated. Thanks

Robert

I'd avoid that car like the plague. Check out Fitzgerald Motors they've had some tremendous deals lately.

The last few times I've been on the Viper board, I've seen an ad for '01 Vipers at $600 over invoice in the top banner ad. That would be $67K for a brand new '01 GTS! As others have said, give Bill Pemberton @ Woodhouse Dodge a call; he'll probably make you an excellent deal on an '01 at this point, and his reputation is beyond reproach; I and others have bought cars sight unseen from him and been 100% satisfied.

Hendrick Dodge??? Isn't it the same dealership someone here said they left their Viper outside after business hours and even left the hood un-lock??? I'll for sure avoid going to this dealer!!

Thanks for the input. After sleeping on it, Hendrick can stick it up there #$%. I talked with Bill P. a while back and we had a deal agreed on and I had a flight booked. His buyer balked on my car 6 days before I was supossed to go out there and the orginal deal could not be honored so no deal. I have been looking elsewhere eversince. I would prefer to stay on the east coast, within 6 hours would be even better so I can drive it home in one day or less.

I paid 69 for my 01 brand new. That used 01 is now 1 year old.I would not pay more than 64 for it if everything was pefect which apparently it is not.Have them replace front fascia.Have car gone over on a lift by some who knows what to look for. Also have them throw in a DC extended warranty. If not, then let them sell it to some other sucker. rgifford, you may want to drive the car back because it seems like fun, and I'm sure it would be. But, believe me, when I got mine delivered, it came in great shape, was just as exciting as getting it in person (to me), and I didn't put a ton of miles on it and a lot of road rash.

Next car, Bill P., by truck. It will certainly arrive fresher than any other way, short of factory. The people delivering it are great folks.
