I have my 94 RT listed in the classifieds if anyone is interested, but the real purpose of this post is to hear from you GTS owners (especially 97 GTS). I am pretty familiar with the car, but was looking for some feedback from you guys that have owned the car. What are your likes and dislikes regarding the 97 vs. other year GTS. I really like the cam lope on the 97, but like the 18's on the 99. Anyway, thanks for your feedback!!....Kurt

Well of course, Kurt, you have the best selection of GTS's around in Dallas, Wing Kings, mine, you just want to join the club. I think it's a good choice, I personally love the 97 (was gonna get a 99 or 2k a few years ago), but it just wasn't worth it. The engines in 97 are stronger (look at results from dyno day, mine with just smoothies filters, and muffler delete ran 425 RW). Stock 00s at the same event were under 400 with smoothies and filters.

I've had a few piddly things go wrong, intake manifold gasket, new air conditioner, an o2 sensor, and now an annoying click that won't go away when I brake hard, but its been rock solid considering how hard I drive the thing (no other car of mine has made it past 18k miles or 3 years, and none of them were tracked as much as this car).

FYI, Kurt's 94 is absolutely flawless, it would be a good buy for anyone, but not as good as a 97 GTS

With the hard top and white stripes it looks awesome.

Not much difference when you compare the other years (newer)
to the 97...

Did you see the 99 that Danny had at the meeting this past
weekend... looked pretty nice with the wing.

You can always upgrade the wheels to 18"... Defratus has
several different wheel choices for you to choose from.

I think the biggest difference would be the color of the car...
I assume your looking at a " 97 Blue/white " ???
Those are nice looking :)

But I like the Red 97 too...
Feel free to check out my car any time...

That's crap about 97 being stronger cars

. My car did 434rwh/471rwt with just a cat delete. 99 and up is the optimum years. For a few thousand more you get some nice creature comforts. Besides, how many of these other guys have been in the 11's with basically a stock car. Take it from me, I have had a 97 R/T 10, 99 GTS and, my 00 ACR. By far my 00 has been the fastest and most worry free Viper of the bunch.

I'm with Tony on this... If I was selling a 94 then I'd opt
out and go for the newest up to date car I could afford.
A 2002 GTS or ACR would be on my list... you get a new car that
will not be made anymore and you get to break it in, warantee
and just a fresher car all the way around. A keeper :)

There's been more than a few folks here with newer cars that are running very strong so I would not discount a newer car per the performance debate.

Guys,

Thanks for your responses!! As for the 97, I have looked at a lot of dyno data that seems to support the 97's being strong cars!!(there are many factors here). I really like the cam lope on the early GTS's!!

Dixter,

That was me who was talking to Danny by your car on Saturday. I'd like to talk to you about your car sometime!! (I'm looking at a red one also).

Greg,

I just can not be outdone by fellow Viper brothers!! Only thing wrong with your car is the colors!!(should be red w/white stripes, not blue!!

) Maybe I should apply for NSANE2 now??!!

Dyno's don't mean squat. Times and trap speed show real power. Look at all the cream puff cars. Both myself and my buddys 01 R/T10 have both trapped in the 120's stock. I have ran against many 96-99 models at the track they never trap over 119 stock. The newer models make more power somewhere. I'am traping 123 with just a cat delete now. Most 97 & up Vipers trap 122+ with the addtion of headers. Look at the record with a Viper stock. It was a 01 RT/10. Dixter can vouch to the newer cars. He has a 97 model and has raced with me before. The newer models are faster stock!!

Wow, didn't mean to open that can of worms. Sorry guys, just posting what I saw at our dyno events, however mis-informed, or ineffective those results may be. I apologize, I thought this was common knowledge as I've seen it here a few times (cam, emissions, pistons, etc.), I meant no personal disrespect to anyones cars...

Kurt, sorry man NSANE, NSANE1, 2, and 3 are taken, you can start at 5 and work up I guess...

Greg,

Did not know this would be a can of worms either!! NO big deal as there are things about the 97 that can NOT be disputed (such as the lumpy cam!!)

I would consider buying out your position on the NSANE plate for say, $20

"CAN OF WORMS" I'm just stating the truth from real world experience. Not the he said, she said, I saw it on the forum it must be true stuff. Track times dont lie. Dyno's can be massaged to do anything.

Track times can be manipulated!! It's called driving experience! Try putting an inexperienced driver in a 500 hp Viper, then add one of the Archer brothers in a same set-up 450 hp Viper. My money is on Archer!!!

So, HP really doesn't mean squat in this venue. It's the nut behind the wheel that really counts

Like a stated for the second time. An 01 RT/10 has the record for the quickest quarter mile time. With a professional driver. Not a 97. I'm no professional driver. I guess I need Bobby Archer to drive my car so it can run a 130 trap in the quarter. That's a cop out. Look nation wide the newer cream puffs are running more mile per hour. Thus, creating more power. Now as far as mods the older models seem to pick up more power. Stock for stock the cream puffs are faster. Besides I ran a 123 trap speed with a 2.0 sixty foot that not any where near what a pro would run.
