I recall that there is a race somewhere in Nevada (close to Vegas I belive) where they close a highway and use it as the track. Does anyone have any information about this race or know where I may be able to find info?

Thanks Marv. Have you participated in the race before? Do you know if a stock srt (stock roll hoops) is allowed? Also, do you know if a competition coupe is allowed? Sounds like a blast!

Yes, I’ve run the race. It is a 4 day party. Roger Morgan and Bill Bagshaw often lead the Team Viper and were very helpful. Lots of Vipers from So Cal, like the Pres Greg Baxter are there and make the newbies feel like long time friends. I expect Hugh Hoard to run his Cragin twin SC Viper, if it holds enough fuel.

As for the Comp Coupe running, it should be fine but the faster you want to drive the more safety requirements there are so you will want to have some discussions with their tech inspectors before making the trip to avoid any frustrating issues like Wayne had with his CC.

Gary Patterson, Director of Marketing for Shelby American is the point man for this event. 702-643-3000 x25. Very nice guy and helpful. Start with him on the stock SRT rule. The GTS is allowed to max 165 mph tech speed (150 mph average) with only 5 point belts and a fire extinguisher.

There are the whole range of cars and trucks. Old Winston Cup Nascars to cars with parachutes on the back to an old corvair running 175 mph with big power sb chevy and porsche transaxle and 335*mxx3 rears.

#1 thing: FRESH TIRES

Thanks Marv. I would like to try the race in my srt and have mentioned it to my friend in Vancouver who has the comp. coupe. Hopefully we can make it!

Good summary from Marv. It is a bunch of fun, and highly recommended.

However, you will probably need a Roll Bar (like Autoform offers) in your SRT to run the 165 tech speeds, because it is a true convertible. An RT qualifies because of its Targa Roof Bar.

I think the Touring Class (124 max speed) allows convertibles as is. In any case the entire event is fun.

An interesting note: There might a be a "One Mile Run" event in the works for next May. That would be a bonus if it happens.
