I just want to say, Ralph if you read this, you guys knocked it out of the park with the Viper. Its a **** car, the C7 doesn't hold a candle to the Gen V. That blue one reaffirmed for me how great looking that car is!!

Now... for a tough version to come out..:drive:

The forums have been over the Viper vs ZR1 battle since the December article. December 17th actually.
The Ralph comments you are making are also from December last year. December 17th actually.
Welcome to the party, 10 and a half months later actually.
Coulda shoulda woulda. Sounds like you would make for a perfect CEO, you have all the right answers.

Perfectly understandable. This alone should increase the sales of the currently available stock and assure future for the car. Last thing Viper enthusiasts need anyone asking questions such as torsional rigidity of the new car or suggest any changes extending beyond naming a new shade of blue.:)

This is a Viper CLUB website forum. You are just a guest, not a paying member. If you were to show up at a Viper gathering, and walk around bashing Vipers and Ralph, you'd be asked to leave the gathering. This forum should be no different.

Constructive criticism is welcome, but thus far you've just been instigating and constantly beating your anti-Viper drum.

And this isn't brand loyalty speaking, I'm actually a GM guy. I just like Vipers. I have enough common sense and online etiquette to know better than to visit other vehicle sites and bash the products that the sites are based on. Something you could learn, perhaps.

There are definitely a lot of nice SRTs for ~$100K. To me, it has everything the Gen4 did at that price point, but a much nicer interior, electronics. That is reasonable. You CAN spend $135K if you need a GTS, but I would be more than ok with a plain 'ol SRT.

Truthfully, I am not sure why those ~$100K Vipers aren't selling. It's in a good sweet spot I think.

His comments were spot on and he was not out of line for making them. Pobst's driving skills are questionable - he DID miss a shift after coming out of the corkscrew. Was that intentional or does he just **** at shifting? That easily made the difference between the viper winning vs the ZR1 on that initial "test". Pobst then blames the car; suggesting that the Viper's lack of nanny features makes it a "poor handling" vehicle. Ralph had a valid point - MT was not delivering an objective review because SRT didn't load up on advertisements like GM does.



Maybe he thought the viper would get a fair shake rather than being tested by a driver who can't shift correctly (since he's used to automatics) against a car that was equipped with stickier tires to give it that slight edge. The TA version of the Viper showed what some very minor changes to the car can do.

The test driver was the only inferior element in the equation. The Vette comes from a taxpayer-propped-up company. Chrysler paid back the majority of their bailout loans and is no longer a taxpayer liability. I'd be humiliated to show up in a Vette regardless of how it performs knowing that it's a welfare mobile... plus, the Vette next to the Viper -- the vette becomes invisible as do most other cars.



And what do you drive? A honda. You're welcome to state your view on the matter but you should realize that you sound like a ***** since you're not getting basic facts straight. That's why you're getting called on it.



Does the method of marketing matter if you're not going to buy the car regardless? Pretty sure you can't pay for a Viper with your SNAP failstamp card.

(I had to look this one up but very impressed you knew about it somehow). If you are not too busy insulting people, maybe you can help the other guy figure out how to improve ET results? I bet there will be more people lost to other brands from reading this stuff than my post (or was the other guy secretly plugging for Corvette on Viper forum? Seems like he stated he was mainly GM guy.:D

If by "look up" you mean "open your wallet"...

Pobst missed at least one shift in the video while driving the Viper. Driving a Viper takes skill; it's not something you'll pick up after a lap or two during a mag review...especially if most of the cars you're "driving" are glorified automatics.

People are not going to make a car buying decision about a Viper or any other exotic car based feedback from non-owners who believe they are "experts"...and you're just as unwelcome on the vette forum as you are on your hyndai elantra toonerz forum. It's not exclusive to the VCA or its members.

I don't think the backlash now is against Gen 5 specifically. Rather, it is frustration that the car is not selling (price, marketing, etc). It is also because of the worry that the Viper may not survive for too much longer with sales figures in the low 400's/year.

It has sold 500 in less than six months of hitting dealer lots.

Where are you getting this "400 in a year" mythical figure from?

I wasn't implying any connection there. I heard there was backlash against Gen3 specifically for the styling alone, which is why I mentioned that. The GenV issues are not necessarily with the car itself. Although I don't think anyone has proven what the route cause of the sales issue are. Until there is a concerted marketing push that results in increased sales, we can only speculate the the absence of something is the cause of something.

I said "low 400's" and the published number was 426. I stand by my statement. So your 500 number is the "mythical figure".

Also, it doesn't matter if it was 6 months or 12 months. Supply is there and buyers knew about the car since April 2012. So technically, they've had 1.5 years to pony up to buy it. There are plenty of Vipers available for sale now and no buyers so it is definitely not a time frame issue or a supply issue. I still think it is a marketing issue. Within marketing lies market research (amongst other things). Within market research lies pricing (amongst other things).
