Anybody heard anything about these yet? I'm think this tire in a 19" could be great on the rear of the SRT.

Tire Business staff report

CLERMONT-FCERRAND, France (Nov. 24, 2010) — Group Michelin has developed a successor to its Pilot Sport PS2 ultra-high-performance (UHP) tire that draws on the firm´s racing tire technology to deliver longer tread life as well as improved wet and dry grip.

The Pilot Super Sport will launch in Europe in early January in 31 sizes in five rim diameters and in April in North Ameica with an even larger size range.
Michelin said it tapped into technology from its engagement in international endurance racing for the Super Sport, which replaces the PS2 that was certified as OE on more than 200 vehicles, Michelin said.
Clermont-Ferrand-based Michelin claims the new tire’s performance exceeds that of its predecessor in all categories, thanks to the use of three proprietary technologies: an aramid fiber belt; dual-compound tread; and variable contact patch geometry.
Michelin is rolling out the tire in 31 sizes in five rim diameters, ranging from 225/45ZR18 to 265/30ZR22 and including sizes up to 345mm wide. It did not disclose pricing information.
Michelin North America Inc. plans to have some 17-inch sizes available as well when the tire launches in April.
Much of the development work was done with Porsche A.G., BMW A.G.’s M division and Ferrari S.p.A., Michelin said.
Michelin claims, among other things, that the Super Sport: delivers 10-percent longer road-going treadlife; shortens wet braking from 50 mph by nearly 10 feet; and shortens dry braking from 65 mph by 4 to 4.5 feet.

Thanks for the post. I'm just about to put my Viper into hibernation and am in need of new shoes. Was planning to wait until spring anyhow and now I have even more reason to wait. Sure hope they're available in the March timeframe.

Here's a link with some pics and a little more info:

FYI: It may take up to 2 years to see these tires in "Viper sizes" - larger sizes are not made on a continual basis, at least not by Michelin and the initial rollout will likely be more popular "smaller" sizes (think BMW/Porsche/Mercedes Benz).

I hope they bring out a 21"! However... 345 isnt going to cut it, it needs to be at least 375 to really compete with Pirelli and Kumho. A 375/25/21 would be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for the SRT-10's

Would imagine we will see 18s and 19s fairly soon, as the Viper was right up there when the last change was made with Michelin. This is relative , as the line usually lags in the US, but not as much as years ago ---- the US is just too huge a market.

Blah,Blah,Blah. Tell us how sticky it is. We're not interested in longevity we want grip like the sport cups or better in all Viper sizes. I have a gen 2 in 18" and think a lowered car is perfect with standard Viper sizes . Although the ps2 are very good they are not sport cups by any stretch. Will try some Track Claw on them and will report and maybe then switch to the Kumo if avilable. GTS Bruce

I am going to bring you to the dark side sooner or later. You are going to have nice big street rims and track rims with Hoosiers if I have anything to say about it!

Put these in your pipe and smoke it! LOL

New Michelin Pilot Super Sport (PSS)
Posted on November 3, 2010 by admin
Michelin Tyres have launched the Michelin Pilot Super Sport – their next generation of tyres specially engineered for Super Sport and Ultra High Performance cars. The Pilot Super Sport has been developed with BMW M, Ferrari & Porsche along with technology coming from 13 consecutive Michelin “24 Hour Le Mans” victories.

The Michelin Super Sport has been designed with to accomplish a single purpose which is to “deliver the ultimate driving experience while ensuring maximum safety - even in extreme conditions of use”. The Super Sport tyre has been put throught the most rigerous testing using the same margins as those used in the civil aviation industry. During this testing the tyre covered 50,000 kilometres withstanding peak loads equivelent to twice the weight it would support on a car.

The Pilot Super sport will replace the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (PS2) in some sizes and promises to offer better road and track mileage, increased handling and braking in dry and wet conditions compared to the Pilot Sport 2.

Finally a 345/30ZR 20" Michelin Rear Tire :usa: I have been running the Porsche Carera GT Super Car 335/30ZR 20" PS2's and always thought the tread was a tad to small. Can't wait to switch up! I know many Viper owners run several different tire brands, but I personally feel that the Viper runs best on Michelins.
.
I really hope that the Pilot Sport Cups get made in the 19" front / 20" rear set up. That would be perfect IMO.

I'm staying with stock rims, so it looks like Kuhmo's for my Gen IV from now on.

Yes I read about this feature in French papers. The change will be the speed rating. For the taste of Michelin Lawyers, too many cars are able to run above 200mph. The new tire will be rated above 200mph so Lambo, Viper and Ferrari owners will be able "safely" hit the road in Germany at higher speeds :)

This tire will be much more expensive. I will stay with the rock solid PS2.
