I recently installed a set of ab wires on my 2000rt/10. new plugs (mopar),wires went in /on with no issues except that wires fit very tightly into looms. I was very careful to follow original wire routing etc.

a few days afterwards I noticed a noise with radio on, sounds like a crackling that is more noticable at idle and goes away as revs increase and now I hear a bearing noise coming from my alternator.

could i have damaged a plug wire ? visually they all look fine.

could a bearing in the alternator induce noise into the stero system ?

I still need an alternator, dealer wants big bucks, any suggestions ?

I realize the quick way to start would be to swap old cables back on 1 at a time but they are already trashed.

wires look great and were a snap (literally) to install.
thanks

noise is there with cd on and maybe even more noticable.

tried visually looking at wires and electrical connections in dark garage but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
car is running great though, with no idle or drivability problems.

Explaining Viper things to you
Take accessory belt off and run engine briefly. If noise still exists it can't be the alternator, cause it won't be turning. Kind of a PITA, but a functional test. Or just get the new alternator. Call Jon B at Parts Rack for good price. Spend the savings on tools to install it.

The crackle is normal for the Mopar wires as they are low resistance wires. The higher resistance wires don't have it.

Mine did the same thing with Ab's wires. Just re-route them on the coil packs. Only needed to move mine once(got lucky) and the interference went away.

Re-route them from like what, to where? :dunno:

:eater:

The noise comes from the wires crossing (like in ghost-busters... 'don't cross the stream!'). so if you spread them out and a tad you will be in good shape.

or if you post a pic of your coil packs w/ the wire routing i can probably point to the one that is trouble.

Good luck!
