For clarification, can you run this off of the standard tach wire (pin 31 on bank C3) or do you need to run it off of a coil pack tap?

I ran it off one of the ignition coil wires on C1 (not sure about 98 PCM). I didn't run it from the coil packs themselves... is that what you mean?

I happened to have already wired into the tach wire (off of C3) so I hooked this up today hoping for some success. No dice. it didn't like the tach wire. i may have to try tapping into the loom that you suggest...

What is the exact name of the wire that you tapped into? Steve-Indy faxed me a diagram of the PCM wires, and I tapped into one of the "Ignition coil" wires. Is the "tach" wire you tried called something different in the service manual?

Mine worked the first time, and I didn't even solder it (I will eventually get around to it, though). Are you getting power at least? Do you think any of your add-on PCM parts is causing interference?

I just finished my install.... after first TRYING to tap it from the "tach" wire in C1 with no success, per the manual the "tach" wire on a 96' is grey/blue... after that gave me no luck... I simply chanced it and went with the Yellow/grey coil wire that Achilles99 had luck with, and then BINGO! done and ready to roll! so on a 96' GTS I followed Achilles99's install to a T and it worked perfect. Just got back from the test drive, and this Raptor is on the money! Thanks Achilles99 for bringing this to the board.

Just a point of clarification... the ignition coil wire I pulled from is at the PCM module (C1 loom, on the far left), and not the coil packs. Are you going to try directly from the coil pack? If so, let us know if that works.

I'm not sure if people caught Vipermad's post, but he added my COMPLETE installation instructions (with pics) onto the first post. Shows you exactly which wires I used, and how I routed everything.

Per the 99 manual, the pins you mention are all Ignition Coil wires... So I guess it should work just the same. I'll try it and let you know!

Different setup on Gen I...from 1995 Service Manual:

Ignition Control Module (4 rows of cavities)...

Cav 6....Ignition Coil #1 Driver BK/GY

Cav 8....Ignition Coil #2 Driver DB/YL

Cav 10...Ignition Coil #5 Driver DG/GY

Cav 12...Ignition Coil #3 Driver RD/YL

Cav 26...Ignition Coil #4 Driver YL/GY

For those INTERESTED, the Gen I tachometter signal comes off of Powertrain Control Module (has 3 rows of cavities) Cavity 43 GY/LB, BUT, remember that the Raptor unit seems unable to use this signal on a Gen II...so it sounds better to stick with a coil driver location for the signal when using the Raptor.

HOPEFULLY, an someone more experienced than I can offer a little more insight here !!! Maybe, as folks do the install the shiftlight on Gen III's they can comment on the various wire colors found. In the end, COUNT the CAVITIES and all should be fine !!!
