Ok folks.... I believe we all agree "Chuck is the shallowest man alive" so can we get back to a SERIOUS car discussion now?
I'm test driving a viper at 5:00 today. Of course, SHOULD I decide to buy I'll have a tech look over the car (and maybe someone from the motor city club who's willing to lend a girl a helping hand). It's a 1996 RT/10, 14,000, friend of a friend, blah blah blah. Original owner (I'll go through all the service records with a fine tooth comb and look specifically for head gasket fixes) but anything else I should be on the look-out for?

Vprven, I do, in fact, have two psychological profiles completed.

Opinions: Should I go with new wheels? If I go with new wheels what about 18's? or powder coat? Used wheels? any other options? Estimated prices? Recommendations for the Michigan area?

65K for what everyone already knew! Thanks for reconfirming.The Heinz 57 special is a unique eye catcher. 18" might not be a bad idea since there's a variety of aftermarket styles you can choose from. Plus it seems all the tire sales lately have been 18". I've always liked the look of the 3 spoke Gen I wheels on the red R/T 10. Keep an eye on the classifieds or give JonB a call.
If you do buy the Heinz 57, keep the mustard wheels on for a while. It might just grow on you. What ever you do, hang on to those wheels.

Maybe I am just not ********* enough anymore, but I would learn to dislike my Viper very quickly if I had to drive it every day. As a toy, I love it. When I drive it now, every drive is special. The thrill of the performance does not wear off, and the car stays in reasonably good shape. If I had to drive it every day, it would get old fast, both the condition and the experience.
This weekend was a prime example. I was going on a long trip (600 miles round trip) and was going to drive the Viper. I went so far as to take it out of the storage location, transfer my luggage, and drive about 1 mile. It was raining, with the forecast of probable showers all weekend. I decided against the Viper within that 1 mile of using the wipers and the pathetic HVAC system. I just didn't think it would be much fun. Hardtop on the whole time, hard to see out of, worry about damage to the car from hydroplaning or others not being able to see me (Meaning that 2 times in the past 3 months pickup trucks have decided to change lanes directly into my path with me having to go the shoulder. I am careful not to stay in people's blind spots for long, but I think the car is so low, and I come up on them so quickly, that they don't see me when they glance in their mirrors.), etc. Conversely, the previous weekend, I had a fantastic, and memorable day in the car: sunny, warm, top off, cruising and exploring new areas, blowing out the carbon on some country roads. I love the car for just that type of day and would not trade it for anything else within my means. I want to keep enjoying those types of days, but they would be ruined for me, if I HAD to drive the Viper every day and put it through the same daily abuse that my regular vehicle takes.
I hope this helps. If you can afford to have the Viper as a toy and another car for every day, go for it. If not, I think there are better choices.
