So, I've finally got my first Viper! After years of staring at only the various scale model's I've collected over the years and pretending my SRT-4 has a big V10, I've finally picked up a 2006 Slate SRT-10 Coupe! ~45k miles, really loud exhaust which I'm told may be a belanger system, tinted windows, tinted tail lights, and black powdercoated 10 spokes. :D

I have to thank the SoCal Viper guys for trying to help me out with the inspection, but I ended up getting it inspected at a Dodge dealer who had Viper Techs on hand. The car came on an enclosed flatbed yesterday morning (5/6/12) and I still get that SEG (**** eating grin) every time I think about it!

I haven't been able to drive it much, I'm still waiting on the title (long story...) so its not registered. This has given me time to take the dash bezels off and paint them with a nice high quality gloss black. Those will go back on soon, and I have a blue LED dash light kit on order too to keep me busy while waiting on the title. I have snuck out onto the back roads to give it a little flogging... Its everything I've ever dreamed of! Except one thing.. 1st gear isn't crazy squirrel-ey as I thought it would be. I mean I can roll on until I pin it to little or no chirp. Not sure if that's a function of the gearing and HUGE tires or if I should start looking into places where I might be losing power? It idles and seems to operate just fine, no signs of misfire and no engine codes. If that's what I should be expecting, then good! Like I said.. It doesn't really leave much to be desired and if it does hook that well then that's great! It may not get squirrel-ey, but it sure gets going! I'm not used to 500 horses to the rears. One other small thing my father and I noticed is that the coolant overflow bottle sure gets a lot of agitation and aeration when we rev the engine coming from the coolant line. The clutch pedal also has some play in it between the pedal assembly and the actuator rod, how can I fix that?

Anyways... Yeah I've been a big part of the Wisconsin/SRT-4 community ever since I got my 2003 SRT-4, now my DD, to the point where I've helped found www.wisrts.com and host our largest meet. It occurs once yearly and if anyone is around the IL/WI area you should try and make it out, its a great time. We usually get a viper or two, including an Underground Racing TT GTS, but now I will KNOW that there will always be at least one Viper at the meets... MINE!

Congrats! Welcome to the family...I'm also in WI (Madison) and also recently got my Viper. Your car looks great...hopefully we'll get an opportunity to meet.

The car looks killer. Be careful WOT in 1st gear. The car can get sideways real quick, and end up in the weeds before you realize what happened -don't ask how I know. The Nitto Invo's you have on the car hook very well in a straight line, but can still break loose unexpectedly. Drop the clutch at above 3000 rpm and it will be a handful. If you get any violent wheel hop, discontinue that behavior or you'll be buying a new differential. -don't ask how I know. Be careful, the car is very appropriately named. It will bite if disrespected, -when you least expect it. Leave your ego at home when you drive, and remember, the car has nothing to prove to anybody. Enjoy your ride.........-Allan

sweet ride, I love coupes and will eventually get one when I'm ready financially. I also have an srt-4 as my daily (ironic how my 4 cylinder dd is faster than my viper), have been a member of srt forums for about 6 years. good luck with it and be careful, the back end of these cars has a tendency to try and catch the front end (previous owner spun out during test drive, hahaha).

Congrats. Nice Viper. As soon as you title it, it is amazing how many excuses you can make for taking it out and driving it. After a year of owning mine, I still grin ear-to-ear everytime I drive it. It's like no other car on the road......

As other's have said, go easy and learn how to drive it. It will bite you if not careful.....You'll learn to 'roll into it' and exercise some caution on on ramps. Oh god, I love on ramps in mine:)

I already have managed to take it for short spins each day. Today I 'needed to keep the battery topped off'. :D

Is it just me or is the cabin exceptionally comfortable? It doesn't feel like you're looking through tank slits, it doesn't feel crowded... It fits like a glove!

Great looking Viper Greg, Welcome to THE club. I am pretty new around here myself. I wish I could attend the SRT meet.... I lived in Kenosha for 22 years before moving to Georgia. Can you say, Carls Pizza, Brat Stop, The Spot, Tenuta's ??? Just thinking about it makes me want to take a road trip!!

I do plan on joining the VCA, just want to rebound a little from the initial purchase before I let too much money flow. Excited to do so as well.

I'm still waiting on the title from the dealership. I can't imagine more of a tease than having a supercar in your garage, your money is gone, and you can't even drive it!! :( But I've used this time to paint the dash and remove the fake alligator skin sticker that was on it. Ew.

Sounds like a Corsa exhaust to me.

Yes, upon further review, I believe this has factory headers with perhaps some sort of cat back. The tips aren't polished, and the sound is close to the corsa YouTube videos out there. Here's a picture, anyone have any insight? (It looks very factory to me, not sure an aftermarket job would extrude and bend the tubes like this)

Looks like the outer two cylinders connect and then join with the middle cylinder.

So, riddle me this, fellow Viper owners... What setup may look factory from the engine bay, sound REALLY loud, like, there is no way this is stock, have a 'tone' closest to that of Corsa, but not the tone of the Corsa track W/o cats? Though, the dealer states it passes CA smog, so it has to have cats. Hmm...? Might have to put the car on the lift and find out. Would I have to take off the side sills or are there inspection holes?

The heat shield is gone from the headers, unless you took it off, which leads me to believe you also have aftermarket headers?? Hard to tell from the pics, although i'm sure someone here can let you know, congrats and great looking and sounding car

I did not take it off, but I'm fairly certain the car has stock headers. With it being so loud and passing emissions, I bet, once I get it on the lift, I'm going to see straight pipe after the cat. Probably a custom job, and not the Belanger system I was hoping for!

It really is loud. I know I'm young and all, and the noise is a lot of fun, but its tough to even carry a conversation at a reasonable level in the cabin which gets annoying. If my suspiscions are correct on the straight pipe, I might have to look for a Corsa soon to take it down a notch.

Put the Viper on the lift today. I can confirm its straight pipe and I'm pretty sure there is no secondary cat either. From there up its stock.
