Hi all! About to bring my first viper home 1996 rt/10 black/silver 15k miles. Reading about tires on here I’m not sure what the age of the ones that are on the car so was thinking about getting new tires and some black rims for it and was wondering if I can go up to an 18” wheel? Tried to search but couldn’t find what I was looking for. Any help is appreciated thank you! Also did all 1996 come with stripes or just some of them?

Tires are stamped with year and week of manufacture. Google how to read the age stamp. I suggest you get new tires if over 5 years old. Tires harden with age and hard tires are dangerous.

Yeah I’m glad I read that about the tires hardening I didn’t even think about that lol. I’ll have to look at the age when I pick it up. I do want to put some different rims on it trying to figure out if I can go up in size without issues or have to stick to the 17”.

The white 96 R/T 10's came with blue stripes. You already know about the black ones. The red ones had no stripes.

All 1996 GTS's were blue with white stripes...EXCEPT there were 3 that were white with blue stripes for the top executives.

18" rims should be fine. A lot of people put gen 3 rims on a gen 1 or 2 and the gen 3 setup is an 18/19 stagger front to rear. Tire availability in the 17" range is getting more and more limited, so makes sense.

@MoparMap thank you for the info I was hoping I could I had read somewhere that the 17’s were pricey and hard to find. That goes for rim options as well from what I’ve been able to find in the aftermarket world. Either way have to get new tires for sure the fronts are from 2003 and the rears from 2011 lol. Thanks again very much appreciated!
