Hi, I just got a 97 GTS. Of course it's blue with white stripes. What are the basics I need to know? I am currently the proud owner of a 1990 Miata, and it is so sweet but I long for hp. Please fill me in. Thanks

Basics? Be ready to be scared $h!tless coming from a Miata. I have a friend that races spec Miatas... first time he drove my Viper, he came out shaking. Don't forget: NEVER punch it unless you're pointing straight. Most importantly, go to a high performance driving school.

Congrats. I don't think you'll be driving that Miata much any more. It's not only the power of the Viper that will hook you, but all the attention you get. I hope you're a good will ambassador type because you're about to be asked millions of questions, asked to have pictures taken of your car, thumbs up from everyone, and more--during each ride, car show, cruise, trip to the gas station, etc. I had a Vette for 12 years and a bunch of other cars, and there's nothing like the attention you get with the Viper.

Congrats and enjoy-your only regret will be that you didn't make the move earlier!

I went from a tricked out Miata to a Viper as well. I love my car but I miss the Miata with the gas prices the way they are. Wish I held onto it just for a daily driver.

When you close the hood make sure your hands are over the point where the hinges attach, almost toward the center. Look underneath. If you push the hood down from the front like a regular car it can crack & its about 20K to replace.

'91 Miata is my commuter car. Yes, there is no comparison, but they are aimed at totally different usages. It's fun driving the Miata to redline often and getting some performance feeling at street legal speeds. One has to find a "special" place to have fun with the Viper without feeling too irresponsible.

Thanks for the info guys. I will post a pic next week when it gets here. It's being shipped from Fresno on Tuesday. Haven't been sleeping well since I pulled the trigger on the deal.

Seem like a few Viper owners also have or have had Miatas too. They are fun to toss around but need some more hp.

My plan is when I retire in a couple of years is to autocross the Miata once in awhile and travel the country in the Viper with my gf.
