My dad gets the Chevy mags every month and this month there was an article about the new z06 and it reads.

"Even tho the viper has 50 more lbs/ft of torque the new z06 weighs 1000 pounds less"

ok so my question is this I know my 99RT weighs 3440 lbs so either the SRT weighs alot more that I did not know about or the new z06 weighs 2400 lbs or they are trying to make their fart bigger then their a$$eS.

What does the SRT weigh??

coupe and vert???? J/W

The SRT weighs 3380lbs and the new Z06 weighs 3150lbs.

see here for more specs... http://www.dodge.com/viper/ just hit specifications and scroll down to capacities/weight

All the weight specs for the Coupe are still ESTIMATED.

DSR207..the SRT has basically been the same from 03 to now so the weight should be the same. Man, these Chevy rags have been over exaggerating the performance of the Vette for years. What are they going to say when the new Mustang (Shelby GT500) comes out and starts spanking the C6?

There’s lots of fuss about the Z06 but that Mustang’s going to be spanking all of us (Vettes and Vipers) after a $200.00 pulley swap – despite the anemic 255 tires in the rear.

I realize Ford was going with the “retro” look for the Mustang but that doesn’t mean you run 255’s on your top-of-the-line muscle just to make it look like it’s from 1967. Heck, even the 2004 Cobra had 275’s.

Yes, but the mustang will weigh in at nearly 4000 pounds like the current Cobra model.

thats what the 03/04/05 mustang cobras weigh???

jesus my 99 GT weighs only 3250

and with the upgrades that I have sitting in my living room I may have a good shot at a stock gen 1 viper when I get around to installing them.

The '03/'04 SVT Cobra weighed 3670 lbs and 3825 lbs for the convertible.

Most of the weight gains were from the iron block (needed for reliability with the blower), and the related performance upgrades (chassis, brakes, wheels, etc.).

The Shelby GT500 will not likely be much faster stock than the ''03/'04 Cobras, but it will probably handle better due to the new chassis, and suspension upgrades (offset by no IRS).

Like the GT500, the upcoming Z06 will offer great performance value, and as with most fast cars, they can always be modded to be faster than a stock Viper.

But unfortunately they will both be fairly commonplace in a couple years, and there is little to tell the high end models from the tens of thousands of entry-level Mustangs and Corvettes.

Plus for those like me that prefer open cars, the Z06 won't be offered in targa or convertible form, and the GT500 Mustang convertible (if offered) will probably cost nearly $50K and weigh over 3800lbs.

I actually am looking forward to both the GT500 and new Z06 Corvette, as they are both cool American performance cars. But they aren't a Viper. Which can readily be modded for more power as well. :2tu:
