Newb gen. IV ACR vs. VOIX track/weekend car question

First, great site, thanks for any input.
I'm looking to move up to a gen.IV Viper (from a Cayman S) to be
used for 1/2 track (10-15 sessions/yr.), 1/2 So.Cal. canyon/fun car.
Noticed the '09 VOIX's are going for about
10K less than '09 ACR's and have the same wheels/brakes.
So curious if people think the VOIX car plus suspension/aero
with the 10K price diff. would have any advantage over simply going ACR?
Although I've seen other posts of gen.IV vs. ACR, they didn't seem to mention the
cost of possibly going to Motons etc. on the ACR anyway, possibly making the
aero+name the only obv. ACR advantages over the VOIX.
Any feedback for someone looking to get into an ACR for So.Cal. track days also appreciated.
Thanks
Andrew

Go ACR ! Save for ACR Rotors and wheels, the VOI car is mostly cosmetic, whilst the ACR has a superior KW-3 way suspension, and functional aero......Both are very expensive and very functional retro-fits. {and holds the production car Laguna Seca record, up in your general neighborhood.} If you added Motons and ACR Aero + labor, you will spend a lot more than 10K And ACR = color choices....unless VOI is your color choice!

If it is cost-driven, buy a NON VOI-X Gen 4, and track-mod that. You could come out a few thousand ahead, but NOT have an ACR,,,,just a kinda-clone.

SoCal has a great Track Club: SIDEWINDERS

Thanks Jon, good info, also have heard good things about Speed Ventures for
track time, although haven't talked to anyone about them lately.

SIDEWINDERS is a sub-set of the SoCal Viper Club, and at my last unofficial count had about 40 members. Dedicated to the proposition that all Vipers are NOT created equal......But Superior!

10-15 track date / year = You Get It............. ACR for you.

Re: Newb gen. IV ACR vs. VOIX track/weekend car question

Carver, As JonB said the SoCal region is great, lot's of members, events and help. One of our members, Ben K, has a very nice Gen IV ACR for sale at a really good price. Lance is our new President and Dan (great, X-president) is the track director. Currently on the track schedule supported and attended by the club are Buttonwillow this weekend, Fontana (Speed Ventures) or Chuckwalla at the end of Feb, Viper Days at Chuckwalla the end of March, Spring Mountain at the end of April.

Here's a link to the SoCal club, welcome! Mike

Save my VOIX ACR, the conventional VOIX also does not have the front reinforced torsion bars,Also as mentioned above, the ACR package would not be cost constructive when other ACRs are available at reasonable prices....there are also some good buys on used ACRS by club Members.....you might check the club classifieds

Thanks, are you at CO? We might work for the same company now (57/67 here).
Yeah the Cayman S is an excellent sports car, its balance makes the nut behind the wheel look like a better driver.
Thing is, it just doesn't have the ferocity/intensity of a Viper (of course). But for what it is, really fun, great car.
Get Jeffro to see it our way and maybe I can keep both (right, I'm saving to fight in reality)
YES and what a small world. 756 Capt. IAH but NO scab !!! Jeffro *****. Where is Gordo, my man with da Porsche. PM me dawg. I always bid LAS. Get tore up and talk cars !!!!! You a G **** or what? LOL.

Ben K's ACR would be a nice choice! He takes good care of his stuff, and that car is sorted nicely. And LOCAL in L.A. But I think he changed his mind, and is keepng it vs the 09 he was considering. There IS an 09 SSG ACR for sale in Wildomar CA

Thanks Jon, I'm going to give him a call this week to check it out.
The aircraft id vern. is a funny company specific thing, I'm sure you guys had yours.
When UA and CO first got together, they were talking about how
to handle the 737/Airbus 320 routes and the UA guys kept saying "the guppy".
The CO guys didn't say anything for a while and then just said "*** is this guppy thing?" (737)
The Airbus is "Fifi", undoubtedly created by Boeing dudes...lol
Yeah, the 73 or 733 or 738 for 300 or 800 series, 756 for 757/767 common type, etc. etc.

Thanks Frank, still getting up to speed but will let you know.

To everyone, I've got to say this group of people has been the most
willing to reach out, offer help, give PM's and personal phone numbers
to lend a hand to a new Viper dude more than any forum I've been on, and there's been a few.
(Miata/M3(2)/Porsche(3)/Vette/Mustang)
The Viper owners, more than anyone, seem to "get it".
There are 10+ PM's in my inbox in one day, with personal phone numbers, mostly track related stuff. That's damn awesome.
Had a long conversation with Bill Pemberton on the phone yesterday, half about the car, half about Paul Mumford.
Paul was a big reason I got interested in the Viper back in '01-'02 while Miatas were my thing, and I was a big follower of his '01-'03 progress right up to the accident.
Something he left, and it seems to still be here, is the focus of Viper owners to put helping others, having fun and being cool owners first and leave all the getting too serious and uptight attitudes for others.
I clearly remember his willingness to give away any "secrets", ideas, advice, help to the guys he was racing against. (even though they loved the "cheating bastard" moniker....lol)
Maybe it was always here, I'd like to think he helped it along. But as a new guy, I'd like to thank everyone for their help and
also thank those that were influenced in a positive way by PMUM and his "help and have a good time/people/cars/bikes first", attitude.

Raised a glass to PMUM and you last night ------ he had come up on Saturday while in Scottsdale, as a good friend wanted to know if I wanted to view Paul's last race? Had not seen it for years, and it brought back great memories of a super talented driver who would help anyone. "PMUM Lives " is on the back of both my Spec Miatas -- our conversation last night proves how true that really is.

ACR, Coupe, whatever, they are a riot on the track and afterwards the fellow Snakecharmers are great to hang out with!!:drive:

Not the Ford GT (mid-engine) LOL...I just paid MSRP for an 06...have you seen their prices lately ????

They are the only exception right now but that can change as well.
I was referring to Frank's collection which has been for sale for many years.

I have a car problem. I sometimes purchase these beasts & then decide that i no longer want them (i guess i like the chase better than the actual owning) Not looking at as an investment. I get all excited when a new model is released & just gotta have. I do have a disease. I have extra spening money & i then blow it on a new viper. Yes i have 5 Vipers for sale. 1996GTS - 1998 GTS R - 2003 Comp Coupe - 2006 VOI X 9 - 2008 ACR *********. Will i give these away NO. i just might be talked out of my Ford GT (only if i was offered over MSRP).
