Some of might recognize me from the CorvetteForum. Well I sold my 2000 C5 coupe, and bought a 2000 Steel Grey GTS.

Unofrtunately I didnt test drive the car, and realzied that the Viper is a very different beast from the C5. In 24hrs I have spun out twice, been pulled over twice, and am trying to get the dealer to take the car back.

Welcome aboard, but why are you trying to get rid of the car? It is different but it is truly a beast. That's what I like about it.

Spun out twice in 24hrs...Maybe you should cool it until you've had a little more seat time before you hurt yourself or someone else...

Wait a minute!!Why so hasty to get rid of your beautiful car.The Viper is a much more exciting car to drive than any Corvette. Why have you spun out twice?Get to know the car first.Understand the cars limits and your own limits! If you got pulled over for speeding take it easy.Pick your place and time to "open this ***** up".Give the car and yourself a chance. If you do, you will appreciate this car more than you will know and not sell it.I have had several Corvettes and they are boring compared to the snake.

Hi Afy, welcome to the board. Any new car, especially a Viper, takes some getting used to. Keep driving the car, and wait for a few thousand miles before deciding you want to sell it.

As an example, I have 7000 miles on my 99 GTS. My wife and I took delivery of a Z06 last week, and for the first few hundred miles the Z06 felt odd because I was so used to the way the Viper feels. I feel at home in the Z06 now, although it isn't broken in yet, so I can't really say how it compares to the Viper in performance.

Driving School, Viper Days, Track events, Zone Rendezvous... Great ways to understand and appreciate the car and improve your abilities. I don't understand wanting to sell it just because you have trouble handling it right away. Don't give up, like the others said, wait a few thousand miles and enjoy the Gawk Factor.

. I traded my 2001 C5 for a 2001 GTS. . . I dont think the car is a beast at all and is quite well mannered. My Dad had a 400 HP 1962 vette with bias ply tires . . . That was a beast. I hear all this "Vipers are a mess. They are so hard to controll blah blah blah" NO WAY. That is a very predictable car and has such a linear torque curve. . . Ive driven twin turbo cars that are way more squirlier ( is that a word?) than the viper . . . Just respect the car and feel it out before you hammer it . . .and remember START TO SPIN . . . BOTH FEET IN"

Good luck on your decision. But dont be scared of the beast . . .!!!!

I've had my car for about three weeks and have about 1,300 miles and about 10 of those miles in a downpour. I must say I haven't had any problems with handling the car as of yet. Guilt would be the only reason to sell the car not performance. For all people thinking about buying a Viper, DO IT!! Let common sense be your guide and have fun.

It is a beast, but lots of fun after some seat time. Then you'll want some mods.

Afy,

You've got mail.

BTW, here is AFYs post from the Vette forum. I want to post it here because he didn't say a couple of things here that he did on the Vette forum. Don't want anyone to get their feathers ruffled for no reason.

<snip>
I sold the vette.
Lost 6+K on the deal..
I had just spent a smallish fortune on the Mods..
Bought a VIPER (CLose to 70K)

In ten minutes I realized it was waaaaaaaay tooo muuuuuch car for me. I will kill myself very easily in this car.

George drove it.. nearly lost it in the 1-2 shift...
Ken drove... waaaaaaaaayyyy toooo much smoke while braking. The driver front wheel locks real goood. Better than trying a burnout.

I spun out twice in 24 hrs of ownership. Pulled over.. and made to do a whole song and dance sequence.

I am going to try and get rid of the car in the morning...
I think the final tally will be.. Afy -11K Car Dealership +10.95K at the very least.

Moral of the story..
Jeans are an impluse buy.. A VIPER isnt.

I spun out because the drivers side front brake is locking at about 20-30% pressure. These is something wrong with it.. and this has been validated by Mike and others.

I have been driving stick shifts for over 10 years, so it isnt that issue. Its just a gut feeling of certainity that I will kill my self in this car. Its like playing russian roulette for me..
