Nice, semi-deep scratches - help?

My son drug a fireworks box on the rear of the GTS, and put some nice scratches across an area about 12" wide and 5"long. Kids, you gotta love 'em. I used Zaino Z5, but it had very little effect on the scratches. What would you recommend I try next?

If they are below the clear coat, I'ld probably repaint. Won't be too expensive.

They don't appear to be under the clear coat. I was surprised that the Z5 didn't have much effect on them. When you rub your fingernail across them, you don't feel any bumps/roughness. But they certainly look pretty bad on the blue stripe. The scratches on the silver aren't as noticeable.

Z5 isn't going to help with anything other than fine scrathes. 3M swirl remover might help, then Z5.

You can take them out easy...NO BODY SHOP NEEDED!

Get some 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound Liquid, a foam applicator, and some elbow grease...Remember, the only thing that removes scratches is HEAT (your high speed elbow grease, but don't "push" real hard, just firm) and an abrasive (3M FCRC, will in no way harm your clear coat, at all)...follow up with 3M or Meguires Swirl Remover to remove any "haze"...You can get all the above at NAPA...Take a "before" and "after" pics...

Better yet, use a 6" Porter Cable Random Orbital buffer, if you have one...There is no substitute...

I've had some luck with GS27 scratch remover - works sometimes, doesn't work other times, depends on the scratches.

Per Gerald's message above, you can remove many of these kind of scratches by hand with the 3M fine cut rubbing compound. It does take some effort, but I've done it several times. I have a professional buffing machine, but I always prefer trying by hand first, it's also less clean up as well. Follow with something like Meguier's polish (their step #2 I think) then Zaino. Good Luck!

Try 3m 39009 SSR by hand or with a Porter cable random orbital buffer and a foam pad. If that doesn't work wet sand with 2000 grit and soapy water then follow up with 39009 like stated above. Then Zaino.

I will be flamed but Zaino *****. I put five coats of Z-5 on my sapphire blue ACR with the hopes it would remove or hide a bunch of scratches the car had when I bought it. The only thing that I found that did remove an overwhelming majority is my Porter Cable Sander/Polisher (Lowes $109) and Einszett Paint Polish If that is not abrasive enough, then try Einszett Lack Politur then follow with the Polish and then wax it with whatever you please. I use P21S Concours-Look Carnauba Wax . The P21S is not a synthetic wax, it's a carnuba wax based product. I don't use the synthetics on the Viper (but I do use it on my other vehicles) as I just wax it more often with the P21S (it appies and removes like butter...but without the greasy mess ). Just my 2 cents...

I share much of the pro-US stance (just not quite so obstinate about it). However, in this case the engineering, manufacturing, marketing and vast majority of supporting headquarters are in the US for the Chrysler Group. Profits, when there are any, are a small percentage of the revenue. This is very unlike Japanese, German, etc with transplant manufacturing sites. Most of their other aspects are off-shore. Also of note Dieter Zetsche is the CEO and Wolfgang the COO of the Chrysler Group. Neither is directly in marketing so neither has a Dodge or Chrysler (brand) title.

Sorry, really didn't intend to piss off anyone. No liberalpussie here, I just know from experience where the money from my purchases really goes. Just cause the gas station says Texaco, it doesn't mean the money stays in the US. Great advice - I just got brushed pretty bad on my rear bumper in my M Roadster, so I am going to use your products and see if I can get the scrapes and haze out.
