I think the results reached in the Road & Track test are quite bogus, and was not afraid to tell them I thought so (warning, long-winded posts here):
Biased test drivers - Road & Track's Reader Zone - Road & Track Forums

That said, I think in the hands of the "average" weekend track driver, (which, by definition, most of us are), the GTR is going to be faster than the Viper, stock for stock. This is not because the GTR is necessarily faster, but because Nissan have done an excellent job of making it very easy to extract their car's potential. There are bound to be some bruised egos in the very-high-performance car/average-driver crowds when people start showing up with these to weekend track days, especially the racier Spec-V version they're coming out with.

Most people will never get to be good enough to extract the Viper's extra potential over something like the GT-R, but for those who can, so much more rarefied the air... :)

The Z06 has all the computer junk/co-driver stuff like TC and stability control and it's not close to the Viper. Try another line. If that sh-t was so great the vette would be kicking ass instead of ahving it kicked by the Viper. But the Z06 should be able to anihilate the GTR since it has about the same electronic 'support sytem', more hp and a lot less weight with a lot wider tires. Hello???

Also, as an added note to those who care, the transmission has two clutches. While one clutch it in first gear, the second clutch is in second gear, ready to go. Shift up is instantaneous, taking no time and loosing no boost. When the shift to second happens, the first clutch is then ready in third gear. Another instant shift at full boost. It makes the most of the power that it does have and you start to see that the technology is what is allowing the car to run so fast.

The launch control spools up the turbos and keeps the revs at 4k until you let your foot of the brake pedal. Then it launches while at full boost and the computer handles the clutch. You do have to flip two switches and then hold a third switch for a couple seconds to engage the launch control though. I half believe they made it complex on purpose to help crack down on street racing. Certainly wouldn't be any spontaneous races happening at lights unless you were fine with getting dusted while flipping switches.

Yeah, the driver is less involved, but I think the tech is really cool. Kind of like having a fancy iPhone. Don't get me wrong, I won't be trading my viper in on one. They're completely different experiences. But a road trip in the GT-R has gotta be awesome. I may be adding one to the garage if'n I can find one at MSRP (which is looking extremely unlikely at this point).

I honestly think the TC in the vette is pretty crappy. I had a Z06 for about a year and hated the TC. Not just because it slowed my lap times down, but it actually made the car more finicky and unpredictable.

That said, I do believe that good TC, stability control, etc. can and do make cars perform better. MotoGP and F1 cars have used it for years. They certainly didn't have it there to slow make the vehicles slower, and we're talking about the best drivers in the world. And yes, I know they removed most of it from F1 this year, but that was in an effort to make spectating more exciting.

The Z06 has all the computer junk/co-driver stuff like TC and stability control and it's not close to the Viper. Try another line.

You are one ignorant sob. Your extreme bias is exposed as you couldnt even see the sarcasm in my mentioning the seconds. All you saw was "GTR beating Viper by seconds" and you went off the deep end. Grow up already. Ive more than made my point about that aspect of mag testing but your ignorant behind with the Dodge blinders on cant help but be an idiot.

There are other capable cars that dont have the Viper name on it you know. GASP and some come from Japan. Come out from under that rock, let go of your bias and open your mind. The GTR is not the prettiest car and its not the most capable but its far from a ****. Real car guys will respect anything with performance credentials.

This happens to be a "Viper" club, so stupid remarks disguised as "sarcasm" about the the object of said club... is just that. Stupid.

It's a **** because it has no passion and won't live up to it's hype. Its numbers on paper are impressive and I think the **** did a good job photocopying a porsche and colored in some color to better it. That's what the **** do well. But you can't put the Mona Lisa on the Xerox, add some unicorns in the background and call it a masterpiece.

You are just ripe and dripping with ignorance and bias. Such a shame. Its always funny when a grown man is reduced to a whinny little snot nosed kid because he thinks someone insulted his hero car. Stop being so anal and remove your blinders and maybe just maybe you will see not every car that gets kudos on this site means its an attack on the Viper. Its like the Viper is your security blanket. This is what happens when someones ego is wrapped up in there choice of car and are analy brand loyal. Get over yourself. Im here because of the VIPER not you. Love the car but Im not idiotic enough like you to think it cant be beat or that there arent any alternatives out there.

Have you driven a GTR? Who called it a masterpiece? Your ignorance and bias just gets exposed the more you post :lmao: There are people like you in every camp and just **** the fun out of the car scene. Pure ignorance. Have you driven a GTR to know it has no passion and wont live up to the hype because its from the "****"? What makes you better than the ricer that assumes that a Viper cant corner and is a pos because its "American"? You can try to hide behind the "this is the Viperforum" nonsence but its plain as day what you lack. You have alot of growing up to do.

yawn... when did I ever say the Viper couldn't be beat, or that there aren't any alternatives? When did I say the GTR couldn't perform? Sad when a guy is out looking for attention on the internet boards.

The original post had nothing to do with Vipers other than purposely pitting the Nissan against it. No link to a story, vid or discussion board, nothing. There is a general non-Viper discussion section that would not have generated the pro-Viper post that this forum will obviously create. No doubt this section is gonna be filled with Viperholics and anyone posting some other car in this area of the site should expect some measurable amount of unimpressed annoyance.

Being that the Viper is so much different than every other car on the road, why would any Viper fanatic on this forum be overly impressed with another nanny car? They should have posted it in the General Non-Viper Discussions forum if they want a bunch of "Wow, what a wonderful Nissan!" crap.

It's just another well performing nanny car anyway. One of dozens. *yawn*

I think the car is amazing. I still would buy a Viper any day over it and most other cars in the same price range and yes I am a '***'.

The people at nissan understated the true HP of the car. They did this so that it would seem that it has the same power as the 911 turbo. It is really putting down 480 rwhp and probably 560-580 at the crank. The car does look a lot better in person though i saw it at a recent car show. Would i want one. . . sure, but i would and did get the Viper first.

Aint nothing wrong with prefering one type of vehicle over another thats why this is Viper Club. Im here obviously because I have love for the Viper but Im also open minded to other cars not just the ones I drive. And Ive been here more than long enough to know what a Viper is capable of hence my tongue in cheek remark that caused Warfang ********** to clench. Apparently my use of  smiley means differently than when he uses it. I dont mind the Viper bias but the silly, very ricerish remarks are really pathetic. ***, Kettle, Black in Warfangs case.

So... you've been proven wrong on all of your accusations about me, but you're not man enough to address it? Laughable. Again. I have NEVER said the Viper is unbeatable and that there are no alternatives. I have NEVER said the GTR couldn't perform. You can make all the proclamations you want... you can't back up what you say on an honest, intellectual level. I actually think as an engineering effort, the GTR is awesome. As a sportscar... it relies too much on technology and takes away from the driver experience. The hype that it's the end all be all car is just BS... therefore, what the car is compared to what it's hyped up to be falls short. For that reason, I classify it as a ****. That's my opinion, and you're free to disagree.

Truth is, your lame attempt at sarcasm missed by a mile. Follow Dave6666's postings and learn what sarcasm it. You just got your feelings hurt that you got called on a lame attempt at humor or whatever you call it, and decided you're gonna lash out at me. You don't need to grow up, you just need to know how to form a better argument. A bigger man would have clarified himself from the misunderstanding and reached out.

Blah blah blah..lol...What an overly verbose bunch of nonsense. Whatever you need to tell yourself to feel secure. Your bias and ignorance has already been exposed. You can try to bury that fact with halfbaked comebacks but we all know your ego is ******* with your car. Thats why you jump on anything that remotely triggers your paranoid assumptions. You type this nonsense because you are actually trying to convince yourself that you really are secure about yourself and that you are cool, after all you have a Viper so you must be cool. Carry on Stuart Smally you can have the last word.;)

Actually he is right. The GTR is putting down 480 to the wheels. Its been the norm for Nissan to state the rw figures like they were crank. Last few GTR were rated at 276hp. They made more than that obviously by the times such a heavy car was putting down. 3800lb GTR thats hit a high of 11.5 @ 123mph? 480rwhp or thereabout makes sense. One of the mags dynoed the GTR and it was in that neighborhood to the wheels. Love it or hate it its a pretty good value and performance package.

It wont be as rewarding to drive as any of its rwd competition as many of the reviews have stated. Its a car for the Playstation generation. Hell it ***** the Audi R8 in every performance test in one comparo but it won the comparo because the R8 was infinately more rewarding to drive. It puts good numbers down but purists wont be enamored with the GTR. The 08 Viper ***** the R8 pretty bad as well and won easily in that comparo even without cup holders. I suspect it will beat the GTR as well in an unbiased test. We'll have to wait for that one.

I think theres somthing to be said about the fact that the GTR has everyone going on and on for 6 pages about it. people say they hate it but aparetnly every here is worried about it because this topic doesnt seem to die! I saw the car in person, and i dont think the design is bad at all. The problem i did have with it was that it was boring, i am a HUGE GTR fanboy, and ill admit that after seeing the 08 Viper at the NY show, the Skyline looked about as exotic as a SUV. It had to do with lack of exotica not so much teh design. I respect the GTR hugely, but it has what i call "911 syndrome", -a car that is so over the top focused on preformance and technology and praciticality its lost its soul compeltly..the GTS has soul big time. Thats why i dont put the GTR and Viper in the same category, the Viper and the GTR wernt built with the same goal in mind.

good points. Look at all the techno gadgetry the gtr comes with. I didnt really care for the car at first, but now that I read more and more about it, I'm leaning towards getting one down the line. The V Spec will be offered in Japan later this year and in the the US next. The car is putting out impressive number already on the track, heck, the car is 300 lbs lighter!

I think maybe it's made for the "druggie" generation.

Since when did a 480bhp become 480rwhp? The Skyline had a 'heyday'? It's more of a cult car and less followers than a supra. The Dodge Stealth kicked it's ass badly. So did the TIII Dodge 2.2.

Poor "enthusiasts" thinking that writing some BS makes it true?

I really don't understand how so many Porsche, Audi, Toyota, vette and now Nissan guys can all state that their little wannabes are better or best? It's a fact that '08 Viper is KING OF THE HILL! That's it. Maybe the sc'd vette will take some of it's thunder in a couple catagories, but no one is worried about a Gen1 or a ricer taking anything away from the Viper. Haven't heard anyone ever interested in trying to build a bigger n/a engine.

Dodge is KING. All hail the Viper.

If I was a 'ricer' wannabe I'd be saying how the little more hp of their particlular choice will beat the WRX. Or have the ricers decided to give up trying to beat the (Swede's(?).

HP figures are based on mathematical forumla, not guesswork or just picking a number anymore. I remember when the Hemi was de-tuned and rated at 425bhp for the insurance companies.

Wow Rtttt'd are you serious? Less followers than the Supra lol. It got a following in Europe, Australia, Middle East and pretty much every where else but here, its known more than the Supra. Im no ricer but the things Ive stated are fact. Appreciating performance cars regardless of country of mfg doesnt make someone a ricer but you believe what you wish.

As for the GTR's hp figure do the calculations and see if a 480hp crank car thats 3800+lbs, without driver, can hit 123-124mph in the 1/4 mile. The 03-06 Vipers for instance, hit those speeds with 510 crank hp and were lighter by 400+lbs than the GTR and had much more torque. Physics man. No way 480hp crank is moving 3800+lbs + driver to trap 124mph in the 1/4...The Skylines/GTR's have always been under rated.

Viper guys should understand that concept. GTS was rated at 450hp yet many dynoed between 410-420rwhp. Look maybe this should be moved to Driven topic so it doesnt ruffle so many feathers as this is a Viper section and we are talking too much about a non Viper. Regardless dont be so quick to dismiss the GTR, its actually a very capable machine. Its looks take getting used to and the Viper absolutely creams it in that dept no question. Aint a car for purists just like the Viper aint a car for those that need nannies. Dont really care who likes it or not just correcting some "facts" that were erroneous.

It does have less following than a supra :nono:... It's sad that people who are a GT-R fanboy (prior to the new one coming to the U.S.) know nothing about cars, they just like the way it looks with a big wing and when its "riced out." Its sad that you write so much when you don't get it. Not everyone likes the GT-R, nobody said its the worst car in the world either. I don't understand why your getting so worked up. The GT-R is like the antiviper lol, automatic, AWD, not N/A filled with nannie techs. Therefore, most people are not going to agree with you saying how good the GT-R is. Also yes, you do care who likes it or not because your posting every other post with like three paragraphs trying to convince people to like it...

Lol, "antiViper" - you mean like "anti-Christ"?

I just don't understand why anyone bothers to compare all these little engined FI cars to the Viper? I guess maybe it's a druggie trip? Before these 'little guys' can compare to a Viper they have hundreds of actually compareable cars to compete with and lose to. There's the GTR, GT2 &3, R8, Crossfire, blah blah blah. There's also the SRT8s, Mustangs, CKs and even ordinary TC'd vettes. Then there's Ferraris and 630hp Mercedes CL63, etc. etc. I'd think that first you actually need to have one of these 'fast' cars, then go out and actually kick some ass. At least that's the way it was always done.

Now it seems that the race is all about non-existant preprodution cars and magazine articles. Read the post "review for non Viper believers" and this whole situation should go away. GTR, R8, etc. aren't even mentioned with the soon-to-be ZR1.

Anywhere I can actually drive any of these things? I'll write my own article.

Hey man, no offense but...The Porsche 911 Turbo IS NOT faster....

Yes............. It is.

Was that an attempt to slow cars down or an attempt to eliminate the follow-the-leader "racing" in F1 and actually have a race? At any rate I'm glad they got rid of it. Now if the lesser series' would get rid of it maybe some of the street folks so enamored with TC would back off from thinking it is so great.

Adding TC was to slow the cars down, reducing the motor size and engine output was to slow the cars down. Removing TC was NOT to slow the cars down, and they HAVE been faster in similar conditions this year. But more mistakes can and have been made.

*yawn*

Good point, you guys are lucky the fanboys havent arrived in droves yet, but they will.

The GT-R has not and will not trap 123 or 124 stock, it's a 116-121 at best. The 124 posted by Car and Driver was intentionally adjusted for an NA car at altitude when turbo cars dont suffer as much. They show the adjustment on their site, and it's incorrect. The correct adjusted time is 119 mph.

They are campaining a GT-R in the one lap of america this year (before it's US release I might add) and since they do adjustments all the time it just seems mighty convenient that they would "happen" to scew this one up.

The GT-R is not 480 whp, that is nonsense, and edmunds dyno and motortrend also proove it. It may be 440-450 awhp but that's about it. It's not very fast, it just has good launch control and DSG to get it going fast, then it falls off severely. As noted by SEVERAL people.

Calm down guys LOL

Well personally i love all cars, yes i admit I love my viper more than any car i own its different its more mechanical than electrical.

GTR a nice all around car few friends owned r34 and r33.

im not sure about the trap speeds but I don’t think it will hit 124mph the fastest i saw like 120mph-121mph.

and I don’t think it dynoed 480 to the wheels maybe you referring to the Dynapack
482hp axles numbers! Everyone I know said his car made more power with Dynapack.

MT Dynosheets:

but after all it’s a car I don’t mind to own but it wont beat a viper specially at higher speeds and when aftermarket parts start to show its going to be a beast.

Also yes, you do care who likes it or not because your posting every other post with like three paragraphs trying to convince people to like it...

lol..Where do I begin. First off no one is worked up except for those that keep stating wrong "facts" to down play the GTR. As I clearly stated I dont care if anyone likes it or not just saying what Ive read for other sourses which seem to be more trustworthy than biased comments from a few. As for the Supra being more of a following lol. Skyline and GTR brand names have been around longer than the Supra and have a larger following world wide. You are talking about just the US which have never seen the GTR before this year. So yeah the Supra is a known quantity here but the Skyline/GTR has been known of longer even here.

I think you are caught up in the same frenzy as some here if you dont think I get it. Only ones with bias will take anything pro-non Viper as a put down or as an effort to "make you like another car". This is getting more nonsensical as it goes on and its to be expected as this is the Viper Club and not GTR Club. Its pretty much the same on most car forums when you acknowledge any car other tha the forum car. No harm no foul but I have no allegance to any brand etc including the car I own. Have a nice day gentlemen/lads.
