For those of you who have Nitrous, who has a bottle opener. How do you like it? I'm thinking about going with the NX one from Nitro daves, i think its like 240 bucks but i'd have to get two since i have two bottles. I just want to be able to hit the juice without getting out and opening my trunk. Any suggestions?
Also what kind of switch panel do you guys have for your nitrous? i'm looking for some ideas. If you have any pics that would be great. Thanks

id always trust daves stuff. but i have read bad things about the openers NOT opening all the way. i think they also take a decent amount of juice to run so keep that in mind too.

half the time i dont even shut the valves on my bottles. i leave them open. im sure im losing a very small amount of nitrous but i have NOT noticed it yet.

Yah i've heard that before about them not opening all the way, but sometimes when i'm out crusin i forget to turn them on (just in case a little competition comes up)and then when i do turn them on, when i do get home i forget to turn them off lol
I left them on for two days and my transducer leaked two full bottles Grr that was expensive lol but it was a faulty part lol

Take that money and spend it on something else. When I had nitrous, the first thing I did before I jumped in the car was open the trunk and crack open both bottles. It really isn't that hard to do. Bottle openers are a waste of money in my mind.
But now that digital nitrous gauge is friggen awesome!!
Plus, if you were blown you wouldn't have to worry about it! :nana:

Go with the NX opener. It actually replaces the 'hand knob' and opens the bottle in the same manner as you would with your hand. What I am getting at, is that some of the earlier openers were actually selenoids (sp?) placed 'in-line' and had real problems either opening all the way....and thereby delivering insufficient juice.....or did not shut fully. I beleive NOS was the primary culprit of this problem. Anyway....

I've had the NX opener for around 3 years and it has been flawless. For visual impact, I am thinking of going to dual 10lbers, and if I do, I will buy another NX opener. Right now, I upgraded to a 15lber. But time will tell. The other good thing about the NX opener, is its rather generic 'mount', so you can possibly use it with other systems. I am currently using it with a TNT system.

Goodluck, and I hope that helps! :usa:

Hey man thanks for the info. That did help alot, i was just looking at the NX and was curious who used it. If you've used it for 3 years it sounds like a solid product. Thanks again!

I had two of them on my GTS, with two composite bottles, and it looked fantastic! The NX openers are great, and they always open all the way. Dave did the install for me, and that looked great too! NX makes a nitrous switch panel that fits perfectly in the ashtray. Dave just popped the ashtray out, and stuck the switches in. I'm sure it wasn't that simple, but it sure looked that way.

NX is the only way to go. The NOS setup is an inline solenoid and while they work ok, only come in one size. Should you go to high flow valves and start running -6 lines it's useless.

btw twin 10# bottles will hit harder than a single 20, or 15 even.

It's pretty well documented from guys who race a lot with nitrous. My belief is that it has something to do with surface area in the bottle/s.

drive them back to back and you can feel the difference.

Dynotune also has a opener. The one thing you do not want is the solenoid opener. It is not that the orfice size is small, it is just the opposite. The large orfice (larger than bottle exit) causes a change in phase. Gaseous nitrous is not hp rich, you have to spray liquid nitrous. Any time the nitrous plumbing gets larger you loose hp, whether it is a fitting or hardware. The worse thing you can do is put a conventional filter in the system. Any of the new openers that use the basic bottle valve won't reduce your hp. Another issue that can cause phase change is a change in direction such as a ninety degree fitting.

As far as there worth, there are pro's and con's, one thing to keep in mind is the fact that by their nature, the standard stainless nitrous lines leak. They are porous. It is not the fitting as much as it is the actual hose wall. As the line gets large the losses get larger, as an example, the 6AN is far worse than the 4AN, etc.

Here's a couple if pics of what I recently did. I took the lid off a spare ashtray and inserted switches in an aluminum plate. I like the fact that I can swap out ashtrays and don't have to cut any holes in my dash. Hope you like.....

Thanks for sharing the pics, that set up looks very nice. Where did you get that purge button? I have the same looking other two buttons in my ash tray area. But now adding two bottle opener switches i have to change some things up.

The purge button is made by "Ignited." You'll find them with a search on the web. I bought this one off of ebay. Kinda cool since they come in all sorts of colors and are lighted. Good luck,

Ted

I've also used the NX opener for 3+ years and it works just fine.
The convenience of having the power available on-the-fly is something that I really value.

Bottle Opener rocks. Nothing worse than having to get out of the car and open the trunk. All that money and a manual sytem to open the bottles... No thanks.
