I think you give some people, and some countries, way too much credit. And I think it's too soon to say whether they were supported or not. As the story unfolds, we'll find out. Only time will tell.
True, it doesn't take an army or a large organization to pull this off. It could have been just a small band of extremists. Again, only time will tell.
We do spend a lot of money on intelligence, but to say it's useless is unfounded. If it just saves just a few lives here, then it's not useless. For example, that so called useless intelligence has already thwarted several attempts of terrorism in our borders this summer by the same man who is suspected of this dispicable crime. Yup, Osama big_Looser.

There always will be that one time the bad guys get away with it. We can't stop it all, but if we can stop the majority of them and save the lives of our families, our friends and our neighbors, then I'm willing to ante up the dough to help the government do it.
