ANDOVER TWP. — Police are asking the public for information about a sports car that sped over 110 mph on Route 206 on Friday night.
At about 11:30 p.m., a township police officer was on patrol on Route 206 North when he saw a car commit a minor motor vehicle violation while traveling south into Andover Borough.
The officer turned around to stop the car, but was not immediately able to locate it. The officer continued to drive down Route 206 South into the center of Andover Borough where the car was then located passing vehicles on the double yellow lines at speeds in excess of 85 mph, according to police.
The car was a significant distance ahead of the officer and was going about 100 mph through the tunnel, police said. The officer continued to try to catch up as the car headed toward Byram, but the car was passing vehicles and was going in excess of 110 mph near the Byram border.
“Due to the reckless manner the vehicle was driving and the potential risk to other motorists, Andover patrol relinquished and Byram Police Department was notified,” police said.
The car turned onto Tamarack Road in Byram Township, but could not be located. The car is described as a dark-colored sports car, possibly a Corvette, with a loud exhaust.
Persons who may have witnessed the incident, have a description of the car and/or have information related to the incident are asked to contact Andover Township Police headquarters at 973-383-5544. Tips can also be submitted anonymously at
