Now THATS what I\'m talkin about!

For those who have been deciding whether to delete the rear muffler or not, DO IT! I also had the resonators replaced by straight pipe and the car sounds AWESOME. My 97 GTS (already lumpy idle due to cam) sounds even better. The sound has a nice gurble sound at idle and absolutely screams at WOT

I do notice more drone while in the car, but as my car is mostly driven on the track I don't mind. Finally, my Viper sounds as mean as it looks. I no longer whince at the thought of pulling up to a UPS truck and having people confused as to what car they're hearing. It was the best $100 bucks I ever spent.

I am only interested in improving the exhaust note so I think this is the route I will take with my next Snake. Where did you have the muffler delete performed?

I had my local shop do it. The name of the shop is "No **** Too Tuff" Kinda funny! Anyways it wasn't a big deal at all and any muffler shop that knows 1/2 way what there doing should be able to do it. The sound is great. My 97 actually sounds like a throaty V8 IMO. I'm racing tomorrow so I can't wait to hear it at WOT. I'm excited about my Viper again and the best thing is it only cost me a C-note! + tip.

Thanks to all who have posted about the muffler delete in the past. Your right Marv S. the search feature is a terrible thing to waste.

I waited to remove mine and I wish I would have done it ASAP.

It would have been great if DC would have equiped Vipers with a removable muffler.

For those of you that might want to keep your OEM rear exhaust section without chopping it up, I have a OEM rear exhaust section from a 2001 GTS - 5,000 miles. It is in 'perfect' condition. First $90 + Shipping takes it. First come, first serve - email is [email protected].

Later

P.S. - I'm guessing it weighs 15-20 pounds.... Probably $15-$25 to ship, but check www.ups.com. My Zip is 15216.

I have stock cats and I run straights all the way out. I'm very happy without a muffler and the sound is great and not to loud. Hi-Flo's are next.

Redsled,

Did you have the shop pop a crossover in there to help with the drone factor??

Heard that helps and might try that on mine.

No cross over pipe as my car is 95% track car. I do notice some drone but at the track I'm never at a constant RPM so it's not really an issue. BTW, my car sounded really mean at the track. My favorite part is the sound I get when I start the car. In pregrid I would fire up the car and scare all the people that were standing around. The looks and stares were worth the $100 all by themselves.

What a Sound,
bounce.gif

It was my privilage to ride around Thunderhill in that Awesum sounding GTS. I loved it. Sure does get rid of that Wimpy sounding stock exhaust. I had to yell a little louder while instructing young Redsled, Go, Go, Go, Gas, Gas, Floor it, Floor it, Brake, Brake, Go, Go. Ah yes!

PMUM would be proud.
After following a brand new Nissan 350 Z for awhile our young Redsled pushed him right off at turn 10.

Was it that awesum sounding exhaust? Probably a touch of the infamous rearview mirror case of Viperitus, and that great sounding exhaust.
Any way I'm runnin Laguna the 30-31 of Jan and on the 1st of Feb my new Belanger headers and cat back goes on! Finally!!

Joe B (sounding better in 2 weeks) 01
