I had a guy from production talking smack about my ASP a few minutes ago. Saying basicly that nothing can touch is brothers NSX. Aren't NSXs just streached out civics? Same vtec motors with just a bit of a hp increase under the hood (er... hatch)?

the quote "Just wait till he gets his turbo and nawz (NOS) put on, he'll blow everything away". Was a fairly young guy, and he's in production so I didn't take him seriously
laugh.gif

The only NSX turbos were the NSX-T designations correct?

Aren't we judgmental....j/k

Seriously though the NSX has a souped-up V6 mid mounted. Its a VERY cool car but lingers on the lower end of the performance spectrum. The one I drove was comfortable IMHO and very ... ... ... refined. It definitely has quality but the V6 just doesn't dish out the needed torque. It has earned its right as a supercar, but just barely.

Unless its really modified your Viper should eat it alive.

there are NO NSX turbo's from the factory, if I'm not mistaken nsx-t stands for Targa. Stock they are "slow" 0-60's runnin mid 5's with the 1/4 in high 12's low 13's. They don't even make 300 HP but they are light and handle very well. Though they aren't a threat to the Viper in any way. They have a v-tec V-6 in them, let the c5's and mustang cobra's have them to pick on. With a turbo kit it will be quicker, but little displacement=big lag, he'll be quick from 3,00 RPM and up and unless he wants to beat on it, will still probably not be as fast.

The only way an NSX will beat a Viper is if you drop them off a building together. The more aero NSX will hit the ground first.

In my opinion NSXs are sleds. When I was looking for a "fast" sportscar I took an $88,000 NSX for a test drive and was extremely disappointed with the performance. I'm glad I bought the Viper instead, I have yet to be passed by an NSX on the track and have passed many, no flames intended just MHO.

Agreed in general with above. They're interesting cars, but not at all compelling these days -- heavier and slower than a Z06, for only $40K more
laugh.gif
. The market seems to agree -- approximately 200 were sold across the USA all last year. Word is Acura's going to redo them for '04, so stay tuned.

I've raced a lot of NSX's on the street Years ago! Each one really thought they could win. Not some young guy in a Mustang that's revvin his engines tryin to bait you into a race. One I remember even had NOS. I killed every one of them! The one that had NOS congradulated me at the next light & was really cool about losing. Until I told him all I had was Exhaust & Headers. He told me how much gas he was using & asked me the same. I told him all I had was Headers & Exhaust and that's when he got really upset. He came out and called me a liar! "You're lying man!!" I said, "No...really."
And he insisted that there would be no way for him to get beat that bad unless I had NOS! As he screeched off mad!

I remember an Acura concept car from the NY motor show.. had a 3.5L vtec with like 400 claimed hp.. DNX or something.. had electric motors too or something.. and I believe one had 4 doors...? Wonder if it'll go into production..? Still no competition though.

NSX is a nice car, but way WAY underpowered against a Viper.

theyre absolutely the worst for the money, IMHO. i test drove an NSX, SL600, and vette before firmly deciding upon the viper back in 1999. no comparison. viper has more power, torque and shock factor than all the other three combined. I will say this, I did like the merc SL600; wow what a total package! Im still thinking of getting one (when i get older, LOL). On another unrelated note; ITS 78 DEGREES, SUNNY IM OFF WORK AND MY D*MN VIPER IS SITTING IN PICES AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THIS D*MN RECALL REPAIR DEAL. IM DYIN OVER HERE!!

Weird how the NSX has achieved supercar status w/ the ricers though. Ricers talk alot, but 99% of them know better than saying that XXXXXX car can beat a viper

Ricers think the price tag of a car is the perfect way to gage its performance. Think about it: S2000, NSX-T, Supra RS, Skyline, (read: Ricer car Gods) their all high priced imports. The NSX costs more than a Viper therefore it MUST go faster. ect... You also have to remember that most Ricers have only Datsuns and Hondas to compare to so these, above mentioned, cars are d@amn near F1 quality in performance.

They know not the err of their ways...

I saw a guy with an imported skyline once. He was proud of the fact that they paid 90K for the import, pushing a whopping 290hp. 90 grand for something that still right hand drive!? Nahuh.

Granted skylines can be tuned like GN's can, there are many levels of skyline from grociery getter to rocket ship (they got the lower end versions).

I was NOT impressed... looked kinda like a camry on coke.

Got movie of a moded Skyline getting toasted by a near-stock C5 if anyone wants to see it. It's a night w/ a nightvision camera.

The only import I like and respect is the 3000GT VR4's. Although we got no respect from the supra guys (Yes, we are heavy cars!) that AWD system was Niiiiiiiiiiice! 15g turbos and some light tuneing were good for mid 11's on the stock (again, HEAVY) chrome rims and Z rated tires.

Miss the car in a way.. but DON'T miss the 2nd gear syncro grind

i traded my '92 nsx in march for my '00 gts,at first i did not like the viper compared to the nsx.the nsx has great comfort and seating position and is pretty quick, the car is very high-tech.the body is made from aluminun, there is no steel in the entire car, only aluminun, titanium, and palladium.if you've ever seen a nsx motor out of the car its as big as a 426 hemi with the last two cylinders cut off.its as close to an indy car as you can get and be sreet legal.

after driving the viper for two months now,and changing the seat mount and pedals i can't imagine going back to a nsx!i love this viper!i feel like king **** everytime i drive it!power is the name of the game and viper is king of power!driving the viper is like constantly giving people the finger!

I raced a Twin Turbo NSX that lives in the area. My mods were intake, exhaust and headers only (438rwhp)(Did not use NOS), i beat him badly, about 4 car lengths and i was still going. Don’t forget this is a Twin Turbo NSX, you should be able to beat a stock NSX.

You gotta be kidding me right?? NSX?? I spanked one in my neighberhood so bad, that the guy now looks the other way. A red 99NSX. It sounded good with new exhaust and all those fast and furious gimmick crap it had, but I dropped the hammer on him and never to be seen again. The little boy must have been crying

Isn't the NSX a mid or rear engined car? Being so, wouldn't the heaviest part of the car would turn towards the gravitational pull thereby rendering the aerodynamics of the NSX useless. They lose again.

It's mid engine, looks kinda funny. But, I think it has a 50/50 weight distribution so who knows... quick, someone buy a NSX so we can drop it off a building

I have an 92 NSX as my daily driver,I have put 115,000 miles on it,it is the best built most reliable car I have ever had.Although it lacks horsepower,it is very well balanced and fun to drive.Driving position and foreward view are unparalled.

Anyone have the link to some decent times for them, I recall mid 13's but I guess that would be more mid-nineties. Still wondering how 20 horse and an extra gear drops almost a second???

Extra sidenote: Anyone a fan of the headlight treatment on the '02s? Not sure it's working for me, like the "older" style better. The new ones remind me other lower line Japenese models........hmmmm sounds like the SRT debate as well!

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'd never heard of an NSX that was 12 anything. I always thought they were low 13's. I'm with MASH though. I slowed down for fear of getting a ticket or something & I'd already put about 4 on him.

I mean, if I had one I would drive it, but they are still like 30gs for 92s!

30 grand would build a HELLOVA 3000GT VR4 if done right. There was a tuner who has a 10 second stealth TT (also owns a GTS ACR too) I think is name was matt something (monette?).

Slower than the Viper? Yup. About 400x better as a daily driver though.

Portland Or
NSX's can be fast, but they need to be modified. There's a modded NSX that runs at Portland and it is very quick, not quite up with the fastest Vipers, Z06's, or Porsches, but within a second or two. The car has big brakes, suspension, and exhaust mods (I don't know about engine mods). It would take a relatively experienced Viper driver to beat this one.

1:29 to 1:30 at PIR with the chicane is pretty quick. The class winning SCCA T1 Viper was turning mid 1:27's and well driven Z06s run 1:28s at track days in the advanced group. All these times are for cars on racing tires.

Hmmmm.... I just looked through some of my Ricer Brethren Sites and could only find 1/4 time of 13.2-13.8 @ ~104mph. That's new & Stock. There is a couple of Supercharged versions sitting in the low 12s but otherwise looks like Craig was right for once... scary...

Not to hyjack the thread, but I came across this on the NSX forums and immediatly thought of you craig... www.photoshopcontest.com Have fun...

Here are some (claimed) spec's listed at one site for the 2002 NSX. 0-60 is much better than when the first model came out. I see nothing to worry about.

Top Speed 175 mph est.
Lateral Acceleration Not Available
EPA City / Highway 17 / 24 mpg
0 - 60 mph 4.9 seconds
0 - 100 mph 11.9 seconds
