Is it me or is the stereo system in these cars pretty pitiful.I cant figure if its the speakers or unit or both.Im not getting any good radio station signal pickup or maybe its the speakers cracking and popping.I never found this in my GTS's.Ive not had the car but a month and not tried a cd.Whats a way to get better sound without spending big bucks?

Stock speakers are no match for the exhaust and motor and are easily blown when u try. Theres a ton of different ways to do it. I'm swapping all the speakers and sub out for JBL's all around. Putting a component system in the doors. After the speakers I'm having the bezel cut out, fiber glassed/painted, and a double din NAV unit put it.

As an audiophile type I agree the stock system is bad. I changed mine a bit cheaply and it nows sounds rather good. I started with speakers as good speakers will let you know just how bad the other components are. I changed the door speakers to "Hertz" 5 1/4 two-way (good easy fit) and the back tweeters to Massive CT2 (make sure you use the crossovers that come with the tweeters). The sound is amazing compared with stock and it will overpower the stock exhaust. The Hertz speakers are very powerful and apparently the stock amp handles them as I have not had any issues. I thought about changing the tweeters in the dash, but Hertz overpower them and it seems like there would be not much gained. Good luck. Hertz speaers are becoming very popular as thier sound is high-end without the super real high-end price--they have a higher end line than the ones I bought, but I did not see the need. I bought the ones with the orange cones, their higher-end line has black cones.

I just replaced the stock headunit with an RB1 to maintain the stock appearance and it made a pretty big difference for me.

Thats my other option. Stock look or double din. They both look great.

The only down fall is you need an external CD changer if you plan on using the navigation. It also doesn't come with an aux which makes it seem dated. I am having it all added to mine, CD changer in trunk and input for ipod in glove box.

Stock system in the SRT is a POS and a PITA to work with. Here is what I put in mine. Ain't cheap, but sounds beautiful and is more than loud enough to hear over highway noise.

Put these Focal 165 KRX2 in my doors and dash.

Put this 8" short throw JL Audio 8W3v3-4 sub in the floorboard of the passenger seat in a custom box. (Wife is 5' tall. YMMV.)

Using this Alpine head unit, or rather the iDA-X305S digital music receiver. Cool if you have an iphone, you can stream Pandora.

Pushing it all with this JL Audio HD900/5 900 watt amp.
