I bought a new 2002 ACR on Saturday. It's been at the dealer's since Monday with oil leaks.

Are Vipers prone to this or am I the lucky one?

Jake,

I also had oil leaks on my '01 ACR. The most common oil leaks from ACR's come from the fittings on the oil lines going from the oil filter housing to the oil cooler. The fittings were tightened properly at the factory. However, sometimes the oil lines get twisted a bit during this tightening. These stainless braided oil lines will then inexorably "unscrew" the fittings when subjected to vibration and heat cycling over time. Most of the time, the fix involves just retightening the fittings on these oil lines. Mine took 1/8th of a turn to stop the leaks. More uncommon oil leaks are from the block. Hopefully you don't have one of those !

This is the reason that there are almost always 2 hex wrench flats on the swivel fittings. They are different sizes (1 standard wrench apart) so that you can hold the line steady with one (on the flare ******), while you tighten the nut snugly with the other. This keeps the line from developing residual torsional stress in the wire braid and unscrewing itself.

as we speak now, mine is being replaced too. My oil pan gasket and cam sensor gasket. It's a pain, but covered under warranty thanks to Bill Pemberton!!
