I changed my oil this past weekend in preparation for winter storage. Today, I noticed a small oil leak and after further investigation discovered a crack in the oil pan at the drain plug. I torqued the plug to 25 ft-lbs (am 100% certain). Could this crack be caused by something else?

Now I have to replace the oil pan...is this an easy job? I've got the service manual, and it appears to be straightforward. Any tips would be appreciated...or if I'm crazy for not having it done at a dealer, let me know.

Need to have this done soon...there is no oil in the pan and it's going to et cold here soon!

Thanks!

Can't that be welded? I thought I remember another member had the same problem a while back and he had it welded. You may want to check into that. In the meantime, lay off the roids!! :D

I remember that post to, and by looking at the pic it looks identical to the previous post. I think he had it welded

That crack doesn't look like it was done by torquing on the bolt. Looks like something eiher hit the bolt or the bolt got caught on something as you drove over it, or perhaps the bolt got caught on a jack while you were trying to lift it? Looks like pressure was put on the bolt to it's side.

I have an oil pan from a '94 available. They come off easily - there is nothing hanging underneath it to remove. Look into getting the gasket (hold your wallet) and I think I still have the old one.
