Okay Viper owners, enough is enough

As a kid, when I saw a "bedroom poster car", the thought never crossed my mind about wether or not the owner was a snob. The car stands alone, regardless of the windbag that owns it. And by the way, if you purchase a car because you "want to be different", you want to stand out. If you stand out, multitudes of people will think you are showing off. Ergo, if you purchase a Viper, you WILL be viewed as a show off. Your opinions of yourself are irrelevant. I bought my car because I AM a bit of a show off. Just look at the car....it's screaming to be showed off. I also purchased the car for MY enjoyment and I don't like to share, especially with grubby little kids and their boogery little fingers.

I guess that's where I agree to disagree. Last school year my daughter's told their teacher that we had a Viper, and soon enough I had to take it there and show about twenty 10 year old kids the car and they all got pictures with it. Sure, I told them not to touch, etc, but there is no harm in letting people look and admire. Sure beats me sitting there in my garage staring at it by myself. It made their day.

Frankly, I got my Viper for less than a lot of families pay for a well optioned 4 door sedan, so I've never fit in the "exclusivity" crowd in that way. I pick different cars because I want to be different, not because I'm trying to show off.

That's what I believe too. I got my 98 Viper GTS, 69 GTO convertible, Dodge Charger and mini van for the same price that some friends/co-workers paid for their half tonne truck. To me it is a no brainer to have these cool looking vehicles (the first two I mentioned) vs a pick-up that blends in with every other vehicle on the street. I love the exclusivity, and enjoy people coming and taking pictures/talk to me about the cars.

One example I have of "being different" was driving around my 67 Dart after I just bought it that was still covered in 1/8" of dust from the body shop that didn't have a carpet or a headliner and I had to throw a towel over the seat because it was so roached out. I was embarrassed for people to see the inside of the car, but I had a smile on my face the whole time I was driving it and you will almost never see another one driving down the road shy of a car show. My dad has a 93 Stealth that is barely worth the tires that are on it, but you don't see them on the road very often. That's the kind of stuff I like. I like cars you don't see on the other side of the intersection on a regular basis. It doesn't have to do with value or showing off. You can be unique without showing off. I don't need the car to stand out, I just don't want it to get lost in the crowd.

I like being different too, that's what made driving a RAM SRT-10 so much fun. No one knew what the hell it was and in many respects it's still that way. The Viper is on a whole different level. Here in Idaho I've seen one Viper Truck, I still waiting to see that elusive Viper make an appearance. Up in Sun Valley I expected to see one or two, not so, it was a bow tie convention and what the hell is it with yellow any way
