Long read but worth it.

We just had our big Father's Day Car show and parade here in Western Nebraska yesterday! Over 350 cars! (big show for our area) I was really excited to display my Viper with my son who is 11. We had matching Viper shirts and everything. It was a big deal to us.

Well as you all know our Vipers each have a personality of their own. I have owned my Viper for about 10 months now pretty much with no unexpected trouble. But wouldn't you know it....during registration the night before, my sassy Viper started spewing power steering fluid all over the ground. (I would say a pretty aggressive constant drip..but felt like spewing to me!)

OF ALL THE DAYS!!!!!!!!

Well, I was able to limp through the morning parade and made it to the show. As I sat there in the early morning part of the show, all I could think about was that damn leak. Almost consumed by it. It was pathetic!

As the crowd started coming in and getting to the part where my car was set up, I was blown away by how many people loved my car and wished they could EVER be so fortunate to own one. Many folks said it is their dream car!

As I sat down after talking to so many people about my car, I almost felt guilty being so fixated on what was "wrong" with my car as opposed to feeling extremely blessed to actually own it. I mean, so few people will ever have the joy and pride that goes with Viper ownership and what others consider their dream car and would give a left arm for! So many people told me how lucky I was to have it. I could see it in their eye how they wished about the day they could ever own one. But there I was dwelling on that stupid leak.

When I should have felt so lucky to be at the Father's Car show with my son, my viper and all the crown who loved my car, I was thinking about that damn leak. Well, it did not take me long to adjust my attitude and enjoy the rest of the show and my son, and the fans. My mechanic happen to walk through the show...and said "hey, don't worry, we'll fix it. Don't stress about it....enjoy the show."

Then it hit me like a FREAKIN ton of bricks to the forehead that I really need to adjust my thinking and count my lucky starts that my life worked out so that I could own a Viper....even with the leak! SELF-CHECK moment in my life. I thought to myself, you dumb-ass, chill out and quit worrying about "stuff!"

So, lessen to be learned, be grateful to have a life that affords you the pride of Viper ownership. And remember, it's a car, it will break (probably at the worst possible time) it can be fixed...and will be.

I have so much to be grateful for. For me this moment was a "growing" experience in life to hear so many people wished they had what I have sitting in my garage every night! Kind of put things back in perspective for me. I am going to work at being a little more thankful and count my blessings....even when they have a leak!!!!! :D

I enjoyed the read and agree. A car is a car (even when it still makes you giddy as a school girl to press that button). I'm glad you still made it out and enjoyed the show with your son. Happy fathers day all! Hope everyone enjoys their families today!

You were right to worry, you could have caught your car on fire "limping through the parade". Happy Father's Day and understand that when you quit worrying about your car and start to really enjoy it, you die.

I know the feeling. I also came to the same conclusion. Its a great car, it is old, it will have various things go wrong. As long as it isn't a blown engine, its not worth getting annoyed over.

By the way, Gen 3 has issues with leaking PS hose fittings. I remember a couple of threads. Research it. Cleanliness is paramount if opening the system and I think that there is an issue where you must not mix two different types of fluid in there (which can happen if just topping up from a leak.)
These are the 2 threads I remember reading : one . two

There are people out there who worry how they will feed their kids, or where they will live...Dont stress a leak on your exotic car like it matters in life.

Consider it a good day, a very good day.
You spent all that time with your son and you learned a valuable lesson that a lot of people never learn or learn too late.

Great post, but I don't think anyone caught the humor in Free2go's post lol, that made me laugh.

Thanks Free2go, I don't know why the hell he smiles like that....just to be a little sh*t I think!!! Ya, good memories.

And I looked closer tonight. It appears my steering pump is leaking around the shaft seal. It is a pretty aggressive drip too! Hoses are not leaking..but I am replacing them with JTS Venom Performance lines...as it seems the OEM ones eventually start leaking. Thank God I got that big commission coming...I will need some of it! Oh well, ya can't take that money with ya when you die.

Very nice, did you get a warranty with those PS lines? I think at one time he gave a warranty with the lines and then it went away. Just curious

I don't think there is a warranty with them...no mention of it on his website. I read posts with guys having good luck with them. That probably sold me even more than a warranty.

I guess all Vipers are "badass" when you think about it. I like that silver color. My last car was a silver 370Z.

That is the closest thing to a compliment that you have said about any Vert Viper.. I will take it. I am kind of touched... You're turning into a big softy!

Sounds like a nice show, great pics. Funny, I have an 11 yr old son who also loves the car. I've caught myself a few times, being sure not to have him see me get too hung up on a car. Its just a car. I'm sure your leak is fixed and you will have many more shows to enjoy.

FinalEd357...you are exactly right! Viper is all fixed up. Shop put a new steering pump and I elected for aftermarket lines from JTS Venom, new plug wires and plugs, new water pump while it was in. And finally a new set up OEM motor mounts. It is back home and running better than ever!
