So, was I right, as soon as you hit that start button, the last nine months vanishes from your mind?

Words cannot describe how satisfied I am with this purchase, Harold. It truely exceeds all expectations.

One unexpected pleasure- I'm trying to figure out how to describe this feeling.

It has the styling inside and out of the most breathtaking supermodel. But when you drive it, the sensation is of a race car- extremely powerful, capable, loud, stiff, fun. Split personality. Halle Berry and Mohammed Ali in one package. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.

Make no mistake, it is a race car that you can drive on the street. This is no cream puff poser.

Hey Todd...Congrats...I saw your car posted on Paul's Facebook. I can't wait to see it in person. We need to get a photo of our two cars together. The bad news is now my car will no longer be the center of attention in the Bay Area...I am pretty sure your Stryker Red is going to blow folks away. Trust me...it was worth the wait.

Gary,

Any chance you can join us for the CA Viper Gathering this weekend? This is one not to miss, if you can make it. We will be departing Friday at 11:30am from South San Jose, a bunch of Vipers. Good times. Let me know and I can forward you the info, if you don't already have it.

And if not, yes, let's make a plan to get together soon.

Congrats on finally getting your Viper! It looks absolutely stunning. I also love your other car -- the 1LE Camaro. You should post some pics of the two together :)

Congrats of the new car. It is beautiful.
So I'm curious...did they ever give any explanation as to what happened and why the delay?

That is in the plan. The Viper looks big and wide when it's alone, but next to the Camaro it looks very small. Optical illusion. Hard to believe the Viper is shorter than the 911.

A defective horn switch was the issue caught in inspection phase. The airbag assembly required replacement, which was on backorder.

The real issue is why SRT did not prioritize sold orders over unsold cars. Those of us that ordered in November 2012 should have received our cars long before all those Vipers that are sitting on dealer lots today. I will be shocked if that issue is not resolved for 2014 model year. A lot of angry customers and dealers have raised this issue with SRT. My car is a little different, it's a Stryker Red and they only do 1 a week. So I expected some delay, but plenty of others ordered cars identical to unsold cars that showed up at dealers in some cases months before the sold orders were delivered.

Todd,
Can't believe this finally all came together! Congratulations! Thank you for your patience and your positive attitude, the "karma gods" smiled on you. That Viper is unbelievable. Have fun on the maiden voyage down the coast, I can't wait to hear all about it. I attached a few photos from my phone.

Paul, fantastic experience start to end with you, thanks!!!

For those of you that don't know Paul Normandin of Normandin Chrysler Dodge... If you are in California and looking to buy a Viper, he's the go to guy to buy Vipers from. He's a racer, he's a long time Viper owner, and he runs a top notch dealership with a Viper master tech that stayed late just to prep my car. Here are the high points:

1. After talking to another local dealer in November that wanted a, cough, $50K markup, I called Normandin. Paul said that if I join the VCA, he'd order me the Viper at MSRP. At that time, that was a deal and that's all I needed.
2. Ordered a black/gunmetal GTS, but Paul remembered that I wanted (but couldn't get) a Stryker Red.
3. Just before Christmas, Paul called me with a surprise. He was able to negotiate a trade with another dealer and secured a Stryker Red for me! Something I will never forget.
4. Paul did everything he could to get me answers during the wait for the Viper. A+ for effort.
5. Paul talked the driver into delivering the car the eve of the day before he was planning on dropping it. This is the reason I am able to get my car clear wrapped and go to the CA Viper Gathering this weekend. If I had lost that day, the trip would have been off.
6. Dealer prep was meticulous, although they didn't have to do much because the car rolled off the truck clean and ready to roll. They swapped my street tires/wheels for the track packs that evening, so I could drive it home without rock chips from the sticky Corsas.

The car is sitting in my garage now, getting all wrapped in plastic. Tomorrow AM, I'm hitting the road for the CA Viper Gathering in Santa Barbara. That's the way to break her in!

Todd,

Maurice, and all your other friends were steering you right........................the wait was more than worth it for a Stryker!!!

I'll admit it. You were right. So was Maurice, Paul, and a bunch of my other Viper buds. The Stryker Red truly is breathtaking. And the fit and finish is flawless. Paul and I crawled all over it, trying to find some minor flaw. Nada. Perfecto. Fantastico.

Panel gaps are tight and uniform, and not an ounce of orange peel in Halle Berry's shiny red skin with orange hues, LOL.

And the sound- less like music and more like an aggressive race car ready to rip into the corners. This car is not tame, it's a beast. Just the way I wanted it.

Man, I am envious! I remember the first Viper I bought new, a 2006 SRT-10 Coupe, Blue with Silver Stripes. I did not stop smiling for 6 years I had it and that first week was perma-grin. Ordering one you spec is even more special. I hope to be in a position someday to do it again and make a real special one. Enjoy it and drive it. I did not drive mine enough and that is the only regret I had with that car. My used 96' RT/10, I am driving the hell out of it and enjoying.

Hope my son is as enthralled with a new car as your son is. I would have been ginning ear to ear if my Dad bought a car like this when I was younger. I remember how I grinned when Dad bought a Taurus SHO and I was able to drive it later on. Nothing like this though! Great pics.

Thanks man! Good times ahead. Agree with you- these cars are meant to be driven, hard and often. In a few mins, my daughter and I are departing down Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Barbara. This will be the maiden voyage, it only has 15 miles so far, lol. Meeting up with a bunch of Vipers for the weekend. Time to live the dream. I'll post some pics when we return.

That paint is spectacular. You may want to consider a paint protection film on the front of your car to avoid the dreaded rock chips....

Oh and watch out for those cement parking spot front tire stops/ front end bumper cover killers.

Congrats on your new ride! I know it has been a long wait. The red/black interior was the best choice in my opinion--looks great! Car looks best with the Hyper Black track pack wheels, just the way it arrived, also JMHO. It's a shame to save them for use only a few weekends a year. Have fun!
