How much affected will someone be by adding stripes to a new solid color coupe in respect to resale? Are Viper buyers concerned with the options matching the window sticker? I guess the same question goes for 5 spoke wheel swaps as well. Also, are factory stripes shot with clear once painted? Anyone know of a painter in New Jersey that is "Viper stripe certified" so to speak?

Thanks.

Try Buhlers to do the stripes. I don't think Viper people care so much about mods as others. Don't be afraid to make your car what you want it to be. Factory stripes are not shot with clear once applied.

Who gives a damn what others think of what you have done to YOUR Viper? :buttkick: :2tu: Its your Viper to enjoy AS YOU PLEASE, so do whatever you want to do with it and enjoy your car to the fullest. Now, having said that, you can always change it back to stock if for some reason you do sell. Also, Viper owners are mostly car lovers and can see past your mods...they will be thinking about what they will do to the car once they get it in their garage...I think less than half of all Viper owners leave them completely stock.

Hey Tim. Yes, that was me heading west on Rt. 24. I thought I heard my phone, but I had my foot on the loud pedal. :p I really think that the 5 spoke swap is a non-issue (just swap back later or buy another pair of originals).

If you do decide to purchase the solid and stripe it, I can give you the info for the paint shop that just did my front facia. Fantastic work and genuinely nice guys. V10Kingsnake has also had work done there and could tell you more, as well. :2tu:

If you haven't yet bought a car I'd suggest you buy a striped car unless you are wanting a combo that DCX doesn't build. Stripes are expensive to do a quality job. I thought about a solid then adding stripes and there was no advantage on costs. Lots of nice striped cars are out there for sale. If you already have a car, suggest you see some examples on other viper's they've done. I've seen alot of medicore jobs and they will hurt re-sale. If your concerned about wheels, you'll always be able to swap back, lots of good used wheels out there for all years, and always a good market to sell quality used wheels. Good luck!

the SRT stripes do not have a clear coat over them.

gen I and II had a clear coat over stripes

So Sylvan, what you are telling me is the silver stripes on my coupe and all of Gen 3's are in fact a single stage paint.

They are clear coated, but only over the stripe itself - not over the entire panel. Z06KLR is on the money in that they do not use a single stage paint. It is a basecoat/clearcoat system just like the rest of the paint on your car. The stripe area is masked, shot with the basecoat, shot with the clear, and then the masking is removed.

I am in the same boat as you except I am looking for a Gen II with stripes. I found cars without and thought about adding them but have the same concerns as you. I spoke to some Viper experts and the consensus is that it will effect the value down the road. I was told that it is no different than having any paint work done to the car e.g. getting a fender repaired.

If you're worried about resale, then I suppose you intend to store the car for 20 years in a climate controlled garage and then roll it up to the Barrett-Jackson 2027 auction hoping to make a killing on it. If that is the case, then yes, the non-factory stripes may affect its resale value. But so will removing any stock part, making any modification, having more than a handful of miles on the clock, and oh, you had better start with one of those very rare color combos (like yellow w/ silver stripes). Otherwise, it won't matter.

You should buy what you want initially. If you want a stripe car then buy it that way. We are only talking a small amount more money. Doing paint work on a new viper does not make sense to me. IMO.
It can not be good for resale. I surely would not buy one striped if it was not factory and on my window sticker.
If you add suspension or a paxton they can always be removed and put back to stock. Not the same case if youpaint stripes on. IMO.

Vinyl stripes done right look great,
are a nice throwback
to the 60's & 70's & you can peel them off
when you tire of the look.

I would love black rally stripes on my copperhead
but as a collector ( & I have a few )
No doubt painting hurts originality & value long term.

If you don't care about resale then go for it
& enjoy it as you see fit.

For you photochops...how about doing a striped
copperhead ;)

Call Darren Buhler at Buhler Dodge, as he outsources any Viper paintwork to an amazing shop.

If you get out the paint brush and slap on some Rust-O-Leum, yeah, you might affect the resale. Treat the project properly, find the right shop, and have it striped by professionals and it will not lower your resale, only enhance it. Vipers destined for striping are sent to Prefix, a high end design and body shop to the manufacturers (and consumers) to stripe after the car is finished at CAAP. You can send it to Prefix too, if you are that concerned about quality; however, if you do your homework, quality work can be found closer to home.

Here is an example. There is no way someone could convince me these stripes decrease the car's value. Should you stripe? If you like stripes, you know the answer. Good luck with your decision.
