What are you thoughts on the above kit? I was looking at getting just the chrome smooth tubes but then I saw this other kit on ebay for a few more bucks. I vaguely remember a post a while back stating that a kit like this may even cause the Viper to "lose" HP. Would I have to get a custom box made to go around this new setup?

One other question. I was performing my first oil change (went smoothly) and noticed that I had KOENIG shocks. Do these come with the Viper out of the factory?

Thanks!

Somebody said that these intakes will pull hot air from behind the radiator.
Seems like they might get wet if you drove in the rain.

Filters do look kind of cheesy.

Snake Bitten,
I think you're right. Maybe I did see KONI. Are those "stock" Viper shocks?

Best item you could get if you want to loose about 5 rwhp.

We sell a similar system, and are actually discontinuing them. They are more of a cosmetic upgrade, downside is that you are introducing engine compartment temps instead of ambiant air temps. The more upgrades you do to a car the more it craves cooler air.

I have always called that style the
"Viper Hot Air Induction Kit" for show-cars only.

We all should know that hot air makes less HP than cold air, as well as hot air raises engine operating temps........

And it gets worse: When you bypass the NACA duct and leave it open (96.5-2002) it becomes a 100mph bug scoop. The V-10 valley (pig trough) becomes a sinkhole for sand, leaves / bugs / sand / dust and cigarette butts...
It then pressurises underhood and creates lift!

Jon:

I disagree with the underhood pressure caused by the duct, the air coming thru the radiator has far more volume and affect on under-hood pressure.

To add to Jacks correct words, a correct Cone Filter system will outperform airboxes during actual acceleration tests. A fan in front of a dyno is a JOKE! I have tried every airbox, air filter, scoop and contraption that is available and I can tell you that my 9 SECOND VIPER uses CONE FILTERS and intake tubes. Take a look at the other 9 second Vipers...they use dirivitives of the same.

Also, I sent one of our Max Flow Intake Kits to the Kansas City VCA for their dyno day. They bolted it on to an already heat soaked Viper and gained 10 HP over smooth tubes....but don't take my word for it, look it up on the archives of this forum!

One more thing...what about all those folks with NOVI superchargers(Paxton, DLM, JH)....they don't have an airbox, cone filter, or einsteins version of attempting to pressurize an open container(geeze that cracked me up!)but they make great power with that blower sitting right in front of the radiator!

As with any modification, you get what you pay for. Buy cheap 2nd grade filters and get that kind of performance, buy intake tubes that are bent at the wrong angle with the wrong size tube..and get the performance that you paid for, and if you think that air inside of your airbox isn't hot as he|| from sitting ontop of the radiator..Ive got some prime Mexican land for sale..CHEAP!!

Enough said!

I have the BTR tubes and cones. After adding an aluminum tray to separate the cones from the back of the radiator, I've been happier with the throttle response. Without the shield, there would be days when the car felt sluggish. Now it runs happy all the time. I just dynoed a couple weeks ago- 435 rwhp- standard creampuff numbers.

An example of the plate isolating the warm air path from the cones. This setup just dynoed at 458/490 NA. The mods are headers, exhausts and T&D's.

RX:

It is a .125 thickness plate and is sits on top of the radiator and under the remnants of the airbox. It is sandwiched and tight. In the rear it sits on the oem cross brace. I merely used four self-tapping screw thru the plate and into the crossmember. The only trick is to bring back the plate far enough to clear the fan shroud before dropping the two inches to line up with the plane of the brace.

I really like the plate idea, I just think these cones are too big to get the plate in underneath. Will adjusting them up and turning them in (towards eachother) so the plate will fit hurt my hp #'s??

Re: Opinions on Dodge Viper Dual Tube intake Filter kit?

Cut the hoses to make them fit. The cones look similar in size to the BTR kit. Mine started out looking like yours. As a side benefit, the addition of the plate dropped the average engine temperature. The reason being, there is an upward flow of air behind the radiator (pressurized area)that interferes with the frontal flow and the plate made air entry thru the front the preferred path.

I have cone filters and like Jack B's plate, but I have the Sean Roe's duct kit which includes a plate between the bottom of the radiator and engine. I wonder if I should remove the Roe plate if I install one like Jack's. If not, I might trap air exiting the radiator between Jack's plate on top and the Roe plate on the bottom. Ideas?
