Dunlop SP Sport 8000 tires is what I've got on my car.
335/35ZR17 on back and P275/40ZR17 on front.
When I smoke the tires, there's no black trail at all and never any squealing(just a sound like you're saying an F word -FFFFFFFFFFF).
Upgrading to a better tire seems like the thing to do but I don't look forward to squealing tires and whatever else comes with the new tires.
I like these tires simply because of the no squealing and when I take corners sideways, I just slide(float) around them. The upgraded tires seems like if you tried a corner sideways, you'd get into wheel hop.
Any opinions?

Matt,

Im not really familiar with that tire but it sounds like either they are very hard compound or they are overinflated.

Try doing a nice hard burnout on a concrete pad like a driveway. Let pressure down to about 22 and try that.

Let me guess... Tire wear rating of 200? My (uneducated) understanding (guess) is that HARD tires (high wear ratings) slide and don't leave rubber, just at you're describing. A softer tire, with a low tread rating, leaves some black, and doesn't like to slide around the corners... but you can corner faster because they stick better. I'm actually concidering a second set of rims and a soft set of tires just for the track, and leave the hard tires for road trips.

Well, Dunlop SP Sport is original equipement for Porsches in Europe. Last year in Geneva, a guy went to court being accused of noise disturbance for spinning his wheels in the old town. His defense was that these tires are specially made not to screech.

He won.

Okay, I guess my question is if anybody is knowledgeable about both sets of tires they can tell me which is better or which they prefer? Like I said before, there's nothing like tearing around a corner and just floating sideways around it with nothing but tire slide! But I also would like to get more traction off the line which I don't get with these tires. I think JDR said it best about getting two sets of tires, one for the track and one for the road! Here's a video link to kind of show you how the tires perform. And this was on a country road in which allows "HALLATTAH" traction, one of the best in the city even more than at KCIR drag track. The car does give a little squeal on this street but usually none at all. http://viper.epikos.com/Uploaded/1774125PM1052.mpg

Very interesting, my M5 has the Dunlops, but production is split between pilot sports and the Dunlops, you cannot choose which you get, BMW says no significant difference between the tires. I have had the same experience as you with them.

If it feels like it is skipping, the answer is cold tires. The street surface means a lot too, maybe you are trying to do burn outs on those old concrete type roads, so it eats the tire and no marks. That is my opinion....and experience. Drive the car around for a bit, 15 mins, then do a burn out....you'll get sideways if you're not careful.
