Paint matched calipers on 08 B&W

Well before I did this I did some research and stumbled on a few threads. I ended up at G2's website G2usa.com and purchased the GTS Blue kit.

I purchased just 1 kit and it worked great! Nothing but great things to say about it and actually ended with a little bit of paint left over which was hard as a rock the next day even being sealed up.

I plan to do 1 track day a month with this car and I am 100% confident that the G2 paint will hold up just great! I can't wait to get these back on the car with my eibachs installed!!!!

Question time: what did you do about the existing red paint? Blast it? Wire wheel? Leave it and prime/paint over?

Oddly enough, the red calipers and venom red metallic don't match too terribly well, and I'd like to address that at some point.

I left the existing paint there. It was in good shape for the most part. I didn't feel the need to wire wheel, nor prime as the kit didn't really suggest it unless needed (ie rust etc).

Although my car is B&W I thought the red wasn't too far off giving it an "american" feel but still to out there for my style. I think on a Venom Red car it would be even worse being that its kinda red, but not the same. IDK.

Anyways I cleaned the calipers with water and rags. Also hit it with the Brake Parts Cleaner provided in the kit. To be honest there were some parts on the back of the calipers that had a touch of greese and debris that I didn't plan on painting. The paint went right over with zero bubbling or pealing. It really is some tough stuff!

I also only applied 1 coat. I have no idea how you could or would need more then one. The paint is so thick and heavy and covers very nicely.

We actually own a Vinyl cutter. If anyone wants some made message me. Or any decals for that matter. We purchased the vinyl cutter because we had a big job for the business but now we just use it for all kinds of random stuff. I am not sure how they will hold with the heat of tracking, but I am 90% sure they will be fine.

Mine were pretty bad when I decided to re-do them, so I stripped all the old stuff of. Use TAL Airplane stripper. Be careful though, use it in a well ventilated area and don't get it on anything else. Especially yourself. It burns like all hell!

That looks GREAT!!! I have new decals sitting on the shelf I just have to figure out which viper I want to keep and ill be color matching my calipers too. I think color matched calipers are a must do mod

Interesting that the G2 paint is made to go right over the existing paint...I'd ideally have them powdercoated, but then I'd have to go through the hassle of having them disassembled, stripped/blasted, and then coated, and for substantially more than it would take to just paint them, not to mention new seals/boots to rebuild them. The one thing I liked about powdercoating was the durability, but since this is an epoxy based system, the durability should be similar. It's not like I'm driving this thing every single day either.

I don't think I'm gonna try matching venom red though, unless someone has a picture that could sway me...I think black would look just as nice. Anything other than the orange/red they currently are that clashes horribly with VR.

I believe the stock calipers are painted, not decals.

I re-did my brakes and painted the old front calipers with the red G2 paint before putting them in the back. I was able to find various colors of caliper decals which are resistant to the heat on eb*y under viper calpier decals on the search. Ithink they were $7.95 for 2 large and 2 smaller ones.

May hit you up one of these days for some vinyl. Over 1.5 years, and my calipers look as good as the day I painted them with the g2usa kit. Pretty good (and durable) product. Even the vinyl decals are holding up pretty well. But I'm not a track-monster like most of you!

Just went out and felt them, and you're right...they do appear to be painted, not decals like I thought.

Instead of vinyl you could get the logo laser etched but this would require the calipers to be removed from the car.

Thanks, and thanks again for the help and insight! Let me know on the vinyls!

As for installing them that wont be for a few weeks. We have about a 1'+ of snow now. I am putting Eibachs on the car and I would prefer to keep these babies out of the way for that process so I don't risk chipping them.

Instead of having the vinyl cut to the actual letters, have a stencil cut instead. Then you can paint it, and heat will not be an issue.

I bought some decals from the link above and they have held up so far...granted it was only 600 breakin miles. With my black car and black wheels, I did black lettering in the OEM red calipers. They look pretty darn good!

Tim, can you make a vinyl for the 3rd brake light? I'd like one in black since mine is fading.

STILL waiting for a quote. All main/rod bearings are damaged due to previous debris and not enough oil. The crank is also cracked. Diagnosis was oil starvation and debris in the oil pump that wasn't changed.
