The button on my parking brake rattles/buzzes at certain rpm. Anyone else notice this? I think I might be able to put an o ring around it to stop it. Any others with this and a fix?

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,

My 2000 GTS parking brake button did the same thing. I took it to the dealer and the tech seemed to tightned up the fit of the button. It mainly fixed the problem, although sometimes I still hear it a bit. It was a really annoying problem. Let me know if you find a better way to fix it.

Ben.

I hate to disagree with Jon B, but I have had 3 Vipers, '94, '96 and now a 2000 GTS. The 2000 is the only one that has done this. And yes, I do have a Snake-Oyl rear assembly on mine. With the console removed you can see how the lever attached to the button has play, and I could find no permanent fix to stop it. So, I put a bit more white grease in the end of the mechanism where the lever slides against the interior of the handle. This seems to have made it slightly less able to rattle as the grease helps retain it. It hasn;t completely eliminated the rattle, but it did make it better. I don;t use the e-brake when the car is parked, but every now and then I do need to tap the button to make it stop rattling.

CONGRATS on not using E-brake except in emergencies! Your rotors will thank you as they live longer, happier lives!

My reply was meant as a 90% tongue-in-cheek commercial, 10% observation! Smiley snake:

I have the same problem every once and a while. I also just snap the button and it goes away. A more permanent fix would involve taking the assembly apart and stretching the spring a bit so there wouldn't be any "play" in the system.

I know you will hate me for this but:

THE YEAR MATTERS !!!

The 4 'complainants' above all have 2000 Vipers !
Why? Because compared to 1992-1999 Vipers, the cockpit DB level is so low that you can HEAR the PB button ! They all do it !

FIX: Aftermarket exhaust system. (Call me?!)

I forwarded this thread to team Viper....

The reply goes something like this:

YUP ! We know about it, and fixed it in Oct 2000. The cause is the actuating rod rattling aginst the handle, causing the button on the end of that rod to rattle!

Those with the complaint can simply stick a small piece of adhesive velcro or felt (like a corn pad?!?!) on the side of the handle, INSIDE the boot where the handle is accessible. This "pad" needs to insulate the actuating rod from the handle by putting a bit of tension on it.

(ACR owners likley cannot hear this rattle ! ! ! ! ! )
