Passenger throttle bracket on gen1 - can\'t move forward

OK, maybe this shouldn't bug me but...it does.

The throttle synch process says to press the cable holder button, pull back, remove floor mat, press down and hear clicks, etc. etc. I have all that down.

It also says to loosen and move the passenger bracket forward if the left side isn't leading when you're done. Well, I tried to do that and I find it annoying that the bracket doesn't have elongated holes to move it forward. Just round holes with no movement. I'll have to somehow remove this thing and drill out.

Doesn't this sound weird? Why doesn't the service manual tell you that you'll have to drill out the holes?

Re: Passenger throttle bracket on gen1 - can\'t move forward

Keith, When you were done, did your right one move before the left? Mine does, so to get the left to move first (correct way) I have two choices

1. Press button on right one and move cable forward 1/4". This would give cable slack on right one and therefore move the left one first. The problem here is that the right one wouldn't be at WOT then.

2. Move bracket forward like stated in Service Manual. The problem here is that the holes in bracket aren't elongated. Has anyone drilled them out?

I never did confirm which one opened first. After I did it correctly, I took the car for a test and it was tons better. I think I misunderstood your problem. I am assuming that after sycronizing, the car is still not running good? What would cause your problem? Streched cables or a factory screw up? Sorry.

Re: Passenger throttle bracket on gen1 - can\'t move forward

After I synch up the throttles, I'm at WOT on both sides.

BUT, the right one moves first. To stop this I can move the cable forward but that takes the right one off WOT.

I'd like to move the bracket like the Service Manual says but it's not elongated.

Some have "rounded out" the bracket hole...some have placed SHORT spacer JUST BEFORE the END of left cable to cause it to react first.

I elongated the holes on the bracket about 1/8" inch and refastened it with star washers to help secure it so it would not move. This did the trick!
